P362 vs. BP7000 vs. BP7001 vs. Others

Over 8 grand for the current ones. One thing about them that can't be discounted is how they look. Once you see them it's like you don't even care what they're gonna sound like. I've had girlfriends like that.

An old sock or two usually works great for that.

I don't have a need for speakers that play louder than what I have. I don't even turn these up all that high anymore. Old age is a b.tch!

Wow, I need more spare time to go through this long thread. For now I would say the P362 sounds reasonably good. They remind me of my RTi38 but of course much better in terms of freq response. Compare to my 2.3i (>8X the cost), the mighty Infinity sounded grainy plus lacking transient impacts, so I would not use them for classical music CD for sure. If they can sound almost as good (8 vs 10?) as those big DefTech's I feel sorry for their owners.

How was the comparison done, where you heard these said effects?

Those are Energy V2.3i. I would love to see some curves and technical reviews but found none other than a couple of non technical ones for the 2.4i. The speakers were compared side by side in the same room. In fact after that I also put the 362 side by side with my 25 years old (tweeters rebuilt to new condition) Energy ref 22 connoisseur and the Infinity still lose.

When I said they sounded grainy I meant in relative sense only. For < C$400 they are hard to beat. Even at double the price there may not be a single speaker that can do better. Beyond that I would like to think the game would begin to change.

I use mostly high quality CD by Ref CD, Telarc, Sheffield Labs, Chesky, and a few SACDs for the comparison.

No, I said they sounded like a "7" & the DefTechs are a "10" and the B&W800s are an "8", so I feel sorry for the B&W owners.

Interesting. I've seen some measurements of another Veritas (V2.8), they were quite smooth, looks like a nice vertical driver box design like the Infinity.
It would be fascinating to see if the preference remained under blind conditions, but alas...

Understood. I often see the word "grainy" in audiophile subjective reviews and have always been fascinated with how this might manifest itself in the physical soundfield (if that is where it exists). Perhaps some form of harmonic or intermodulation distortion?? Did it change at various drive levels (loudness), or was it persistent throughout the whole sighted comparison?

I take that back.

I don't feel sorry for the B&W owners (or owners of any speakers).

If they love the way their speakers sound, then that is ALL that MATTERS.

If they think their speakers are the best in the world, then that is cool.

I'm sure they rate their speakers @ a "10" and rate other speakers @ a lower rating.

I hope everyone realizes that this was just MY personal SUBJECTIVE rating.

Hey ADTG and PENG and anybody else with the 360/362 ... I just had it pointed out to me that my speakers pretty much peak out sound quality wise @ around 85dB. Above that the drivers seem to break up a little here and there. Anybody else notice a similar scenario? It could be my room, sub integration, placement, who knows but I just thought it would be easy enough to check and form some sort of consensus.

My p362 speakers sound fine above that volume that I can hear, although I don't listen to them for prolonged periods at volumes much higher than that. My listening distance is about two to three meters away, and they can hit my ears pretty hard from thee while still sounding clean.

I have not noticed that while listening to my P362s.

They sound just fine to me @ 90dB, and I don't go above 90dB.
