Amps in that price range are just pure snake oil products. Amps in the price range I would bet, are more likely to audibility color the sound in an attempt to be sure they are 'distinguishable' from others by way of high output impedance or otherwise purposely manipulated response characteristic(s). I actually generally recommend the Yamaha P**00S series amplifiers as inexpensive, transparent, versatile amps for home use, though I'm sure the cosmetics of them will not meet the 'standards' of many audiophiles. I am not sure what brand to recommend that is 'reasonable' priced and has the high end styling without spending significant dollars.
I don't even like to recommend Ep2500 for home use really, since the user has to mod it because of the loud fan, and if they drive it really hard for long periods, it may overheat since they removed the high CFM fan for a low CFM one. However most never use the device at sustained time periods to exceed the low noise low CFM fan's cooling capacity. If you need a mono amp with 2000 watts at 4 Ohms though(for super sub drivers like TC Sounds older generation AXIS(new gen has much lower thermal rating) or LMS ULTRA), there is no better recommendation that I know of in a reasonable price range, and you will need to the fan mod anyways.
