Chris, I would like to try one but I am in Canada. Would you happen to know where I can buy that Yamaha pro amp?

Thanks in advance.
I do not know. Most online ordering companies have ridiculous policies preventing them shipping items to Canada. If you can not find a Canadian distributor of reasonable price, maybe you can use a trusted friend in USA to buy it for you and ship it via USPS to you. I would do it for you if you wanted - if you trusted me. I even have a local place that I can get a discount below any online price, which would help towards the shipping to Canada.

Thanks for the link, I had been there before but didn't realize they put it under 'Live Sound'. I found a local dealer now. I will soon be dropping in to check it out. So I would need XLR input? What would be a reasonable price for the P2500/3500S? Thanks again.

In many cases you will need a consumer line level to pro line level converter like the Samson S-Convert or Art Cleanbox (original, not II). It is not uncommon for one to have to turn the gains up so high on the pro amps to boos the low level consumer signal that hiss/noise becomes audible.

Crown XLS 402 for $190 a suitable fit?

QSC MX1500a (1500 watt @ 4ohm bridged) price yet to haggle?

Otherwise I am scanning the ad's for some ep2500/ep4000 used, which will most likely be what I purchase.

If you can hold out for a bit more time.....

There are to be some 3rd party tests to be done on the new Peavey IPR servies Class D amps... there has been alot of speculations that have drawn out speculation about these new amps - which the designers are strongly defending about their performance....

Peavey is shipping out the IPR6000 amp to be tested by said 3rd party at their own expense which speaks highly of the product alone.

http://www.peavey.com/products/IPR/index.cfm

They have both ISP and non ISP models in their range.

The prices are looking good from the lowest lines to the highest.

I'm not sure if this amp fits, but is will be a up and coming competing product down the road, although I'm pretty sure it will not handle 4ohm bridged....

The Crown XLS has no where near the quality of components and build quality/design of the Behringer EP2500. But, the Crown XLS is still a solid well performing amp. It just needs to be used in consumer capacity. It is not suitable for the same level of physical abuse that most pro amps are designed to withstand.

Most people just don't need that much power. Although, that much power is perfectly good to use, and will allow for absolutely clip proof performance with any recording, regardless of dynamics, when used with most speaker systems. Also, it has higher stability into reactive loads; this amp can easily drive any speaker system out there.

There are a couple of people on this forum using it and/or the Ep1500 with their high end speaker systems. I think one fellow has B&W 803D and the other B&W 801, if memory serves me correctly. They were thrilled when they placed it in the system in exchange for the 'high end' amps they were using previously. I suspect this is mainly because those speakers are very reactive and dip into very low impedance ranges. The Ep1500 and Ep2500 would not have any problem driving these speakers to reference levels with no clipping.

It would be interesting to know....... Which kind of High-end-amps have your friends made obsolete... to be replaced by Ep2500?
When you say high-end amps driven by gigh-end speakers we may easily talk about amps in price range exceeding $20k a pair, do you suggest that Ep2500 can compete with amps like Electrocompaniet Nemo or other amps in the same league?

Amps in that price range are just pure snake oil products. Amps in the price range I would bet, are more likely to audibility color the sound in an attempt to be sure they are 'distinguishable' from others by way of high output impedance or otherwise purposely manipulated response characteristic(s). I actually generally recommend the Yamaha P**00S series amplifiers as inexpensive, transparent, versatile amps for home use, though I'm sure the cosmetics of them will not meet the 'standards' of many audiophiles. I am not sure what brand to recommend that is 'reasonable' priced and has the high end styling without spending significant dollars.

I don't even like to recommend Ep2500 for home use really, since the user has to mod it because of the loud fan, and if they drive it really hard for long periods, it may overheat since they removed the high CFM fan for a low CFM one. However most never use the device at sustained time periods to exceed the low noise low CFM fan's cooling capacity. If you need a mono amp with 2000 watts at 4 Ohms though(for super sub drivers like TC Sounds older generation AXIS(new gen has much lower thermal rating) or LMS ULTRA), there is no better recommendation that I know of in a reasonable price range, and you will need to the fan mod anyways.

I have purchased an EP4000 open box for $300 shipped. I have a confession, probably better suited for another thread. I have never used REW or even connected my SPL meter. I have been lazy/busy and scared to learn it. I need serious help with this and would like to find someone in the area to come over to help set up and show me the method. I could pay for travel and food. Does anyone know how I could go about this person search? I will post back on the results of new amp when it arrives.

I cannot state anything with credibility about the Yamaha or Behringer amps as I do not know them, but I think it's too simple to say that all expensive amps are snake oil products....

Perhaps you'll get 98% of what you get with another amp by using an EP2500 or P7000s but to say that going for sth more expensive is throwing money out the window
