Walmart has the Panasonic TC-P46U1 on sale tomorrow for $788. I've been looking at TV's for our bedroom and I think this could be a decent choice seeing that it's just a bedroom. I would want a G10 or better for my living room but that will have to wait...maybe.
Just curious, is 46" the perfect size for you? Quick copy/paste/avs search function shows that people say that you lose some PQ compared to S1 in terms of contrast and shades of gradation, but that it consumes less power.

I felt like I was playing a "choose-your-own-adventure" game with all the links I opened up (right now at 6). This is the first time I've seen this ever, looks like Europe/UK, but what a cool comparo function. I don't see the model in consideration listed, but perhaps one of them is an equivalent with simply a different model designation.

IMO at this particular moment, if you're thinking G series, I say go for the V series if just for the avoidance of 3:2 pulldown. Is it a big deal? Probably not for most. OTOH, if you only watch TV, then who cares. The reason I'm saying this is the S1 with a pro cal will look better than the V series without pro cal. IOW, if you're going to throw down somethin' extra for somethin' special, I vote for the calibration for say $200 extra over the OTB improvements of say G10 over S1, both of which apply 3:2.
All in all, I think the TV will do just fine for a BR. But don't feel rushed either, there are always good sales that pop up on Pana plasmas. Not any given day, but it seems like there's something every month, maybe . . . I dunno. For instance, not long ago, I linked a sale which was basically free Pana bluray player with purchase of Pana plasma, and the s1 42" + BD 60 was about $800 IIRC. Yes, you lose 4", but you do have the PQ improvement with the BDP there. I expect more sales this year.
My Pana friend called me, asking for the OK on a 50" S1 today. On top of his usual employee pricing, there is a special sale that ends tomorrow for him, and I'm not even going to say what that is out of fear of taking the air out of people's sails here.
