I dont think the Bills have a shot with him on the field. If he cant make due with McNabb or Romo then there is no way he's going to make nice with Trent Edwards.

I agree Mazer, big markets are a disaster for T.O because the national media wants to create everything he does into a circus.

T.O is not that complicated of an individual, he just wants to be loved and a small market such as Buffalo is perfect fit for him. He has already done a local sports broadcast introducing himself to the city of Buffalo, given the key to city, has his own breakfast cereal and his own reality television since arriving. Hoards of fans greet him at the airport and the local media loves the attention having him in Buffalo. It seems like a great POSITIVE atmosphere and a perfect fit

You tell me what he has done. IMO he has put up some very impressive numbers. Not to mention he draws double coverage. Double coverage means someone else is getting the ball which is increasing their numbers. The guy is a dominating force on the field.

I won't dispute that TO is a good receiver, but the guy's a moron. He's been a Cancer and a distraction at EVERY city he's been in. I don't care how good he is, his attitude and lack of team mentality make me hate him.

Stabler is a terrible comparison. He only had 4 years that could be considered good/great, and for his career he threw 30 more INTs than TDs. I would agree that he's a borderline guy, but that's nowhere near what TO is.

To put Mazer's stats in perspective:

-TO is #6 on the list in all time receptions (Assuming he plays 3-4 more years at average production he'll retire at #2)

-He's #5 in all time receiving yardage (unless Isaac Bruce or Marvin Harrison have resurgences, he's almost guaranteed to finish his career at #2)

- #2 in all time receiving TDs (nobody is catching Jerry Rice, but Randy Moss will end up passing TO within a year of his retirement)

He also averages 75 yards per game (9th best all time) and according to Pro Football Reference, the list of players to whom his career is most comparable include Steve Largent, Marvin Harrison, Raymond Berry, and Tim Brown.

He also may be a jerk, but since when did you have to be a nice guy to be considered one of the best ever at your position??

The defining TO moment for me was his performance in the Super Bowl with Philly after destroying his leg towards the regular season. The doctors said there's no way he'd play in the game, yet he still comes out and catches 9 balls for almost 140 yards.

P.S. I hate the guy too, but I respect his ability on the field, which is the only thing that matters.

There is not doubt Owens is a first ballot if you look at his stats and what he has accomplished on the football field. He is also one of the most hardworking athletes off the field (look at the dudes body) .

Just to be clear he has never been trouble with the law either. Owens being a narcassist should not keep him from being in the hall of fame and anyone that thinks he doesn't belong in the hall is heavily biased against him as a person.

By the way, what Owens did in the superbowl as an Eagle was one of the greatest performances ever by a wr if you consider the injury he was suffering from.

Let's take a hypothetical QB that won 3 Super Bowls, has the second highest completion percentage of all time, the highest win-loss percentage of all time and played for 10 years. Unfortunately, the guy is a notorious drinker and ends up killing his wife in a drunken rage. Does this guy get into the HOF?

I would say no. Character has to play into the equation. You shouldn't deify the greatest player in the world if he's a complete prick off the field.

To the first part, I think Super Bowl rings are more important in judging QBs than any other player on a team. The only guy on the field that has any significant amount of control on the field is the QB- he may or may not pick the plays, he has to audible if necessary, advise linemen on blocking schemes, read the defense when he drops back to pass, avoid defenders, use his blockers, make accurate throws/handoffs, and generally try not to do anything stupid. It's clearly the most cerebral position on the field as well as the hardest position. Your basic WR has 2 jobs- run a route and catch the ball. Now, the great WRs can read a defense and adjust their routes and split/beat defenders to make them look silly, but there are at least 6-9 things that need to go correctly before a WR can even have an impact on a particular play, and very little is within his control.

QBs are generally judged by the number of rings they've won, which is one of the reasons why Dan Marino received so much crap over the years because despite the stats, he never won anything. Nobody gave the same crap to Barry Sanders, Steve Largent, Derrick Thomas, or **** Butkus (all guys who never won anything) b/c they're not QBs.

Character is a nice thing to have, but not a pre-requisit. Look at Randy Moss, not exactly the most likeable player on a team unless your winning.

I dont think TO's off the field stuff is bad at all. Sure he is a distraction to the team but he has never: been arested, killed anyone, ran a dog fighting ring, beat up on a woman, etc, etc. Just because this guy badmouth's teammates is not a reason to prevent him from being in the HOF.

Just saw the story while watching the game tonight. I guess it didnt take him long to find a new job, but the best part is its for the Eagles. I wonder how thats going to work out for everyone?
