I seemed to notice that everything from Apple usually works great... up until they tried a web browser. It's like... the only product from that company that has always been a step behind in quality and stability. Well, there was also Newton...

You all crack me up Safari and firefox both have always been at the front in terms of performance and innovation both leaving IE far behind. Safari 4 is without a doubt the best browser period. If you don't believe me, the proof is in the numbers below. Yes it crashes with me on this forum, however, that is the only flaw I have found so far. I am also sure it will get fixed sooner rather than later. Is it perfect? no. Do I use firefox too? yes. It is most certainly the best mac browser followed by Firefox. Before you all go off half cocked maybe you should do a little more research on the subject at hand. just a thought.

I have been having issues since 4 came out. I have a Mac and I am a Apple guy but I really wish they would get all the bugs out BEFORE they release stuff like this. Apple ALWAYS releases stuff too early IMO.It seems to me that they have done the same thing with the Iphone when it was released 2 months of bugs..........not cool but I am always going to be a Mac guy.....

Safari 4 is a big memory hog. It looks cool, love the view of favortie websites, but performance is slow. Firefox still rules.

Look all, saying safari sucks because this release has some bugs is disingenuous from most of you. I mean for petes sake how long have you been using and putting up with windows with all its bugs? Apple does release some things too quick I most certainly agree with that. But they also are quick to fix a lot of things too. Much quicker than Microsoft is. Safari is a great browser and this release just needs some tweaking. It far from sucks is all I am saying.

Guess you did not read that link I posted. Performance is anything but slow on Mac or PC. Speed wise it rocks on my mac. It just not as stable as it should be.

I saw this thread and just had to install and try Safari 4. Apple software usually doesn't run well on Windows. I hate Itunes with a passion. It is slow and crashes constantly. Safari 4 seems to be fine. I really like the top sites screen. I guess I'm a sucker for eye candy. Safari seems to be just as fast as Firefox on my system. Both are faster than IE8.

I will not be using it as my main browser. It is missing one thing that I cannot live without (actually several). There is no mouse gesture capability and appearently no way to add it. I got used to mouse gestures years ago with Maxthon and have never looked back since.

Maxthon is my favorite browser but I haven't been using it lately on Windows 7 because it uses IE as a rendering engine and IE8 is slow. I have installed the Maxthon 3 Alpha and while it is buggy as hell and has not options panel it is webkit based like Safari and Chrome and seems to be the fastest of all of them (have not done a side by side comparison). The browser itself loads up instantly, faster than any other browser I have used. I can't wait for Maxthon 3 to be finished. I have spent hours installing countless addons in Firefox trying to make it behave like Maxthon.

Well, I probably qualify as an Apple fanboi. I'm a mod on a Mac forum. I have... 10 or so Macs in the house (most of which aren't connected). And various iPods and iPhones and AirPorts. I generally am a fan of Apple's software. I love their OS.

That said...

Safari 4 crashed on me about five times while I was trying to make a post on here a few days ago, which just served to make me even more upset at the time, so I'm not able to convincingly say that it does not suck. On the other hand, every browser sucks in some way or another (Firefox is a lot slower at Javascript than Safari, Chrome has issues with certain sites, IE is so insanely slow it makes me vomit [and IE8 still has issues], etc.).

All told, I can't say I'm a complete fan of 4. I find it to be worse in some ways than 3. However, it's stunningly quicker for Javascript, it has better SVG support, it's faster in most ways, and it works in some cases that other browsers do not. So I'll stick with it. But... if they don't find a fix soon for the crash issue on Audioholics, I'll start surfing (here) from Firefox.

Crashy/buggy web browsers are extremely annoying. IE has been acting up with me lately. I am thinking about switching to firefox because I am getting so fed up. I would take stability over speed when it comes to tradeoffs.

lol, I love OS X and a few other apps and appreciate their hardware designs, but that is where it ends. I use Adobe Lightroom because Aperture sucks so much.

There is a Safari update out now. True to Apples form they usually fix things pretty quick so lets see if it still crashes on Audioholics.

p.s I have been officially converted to Aperture 2. I forced myself to try it out for a week and it rocks. It does things lightroom doesn't and has some really cool features. I guess I am a fanboy after all lol.
