Post pics... definately. I ordered the Daniel Defense 12" rail which actually weighs less than most all 10" rails. There's two reasons... one I have ridiculously wide shoulders and the arm length to go with it. My span is such that my natural grip width... the point where I naturally feel comfortable holding the rifle puts my left hand right over the gas block... a little forward actually. I like the positive tactile grip I get from the quad rail which I why I went with a 12" as an option. I've shot several ARs over the weeks and I fiound that I really like the look and feel of the larger rails... even on the carbines. Even a 10" rail will extend beyond the gas block which is fine since I'm not crazy about the stock A sight.

I do like the the look of the Yankee Hill integratd gas block and sight, but I can't use it since minimum I'll have a 10" rail. I do have the flip up Troy sights ordered however, so that'll look good too.

I'm not familiar at all with Fusion. Like the the HT stuff, I kinda let all these hobbies fall by the way side. I'll definately check them out. My decision will be based on what can or can't be done to a titanium frame. I'm just not sure you can do all the checkering and other metal work. After the holidays I'll spend more time talking to the gunsmiths. I do have a light weight officers slide at home, so really all I need is the Commander titanium frame that I'll have chopped down to accomodate the smaller slide. I still have 2 match grade bull barrells that I can compensate which will be perfect for the gun. It'll be just like the one I posted pics of here, just a lot lighter.

Hey Chris, check out Fusion if you're wanting another custom 1911 built. Cogan does build nice stuff too, but I think you can get a lot more gun for less money from Fusion. Bob Serva is the man there, he has as much experience as anybody ... I currently have a Fusion 10mm with a longslide and 6" barrel, and am having a Commander Bobtail frame Stainless .45 built. I also have a customized Springfield TRP with all Ed Brown internals and action work by a great local smith, and a Kimber 5" that's been worked over as well. The Fusion is still my favorite shooter, and 10mm out of a 6" barrel just rocks!

Congrats on the RRA purchase! A RRA Tactical Entry was my first AR, and 10 later it's still one of my favorites. Great quality and reliability, and the 2-stage trigger is fantastic. I put the GG&G free-float rail on it and love it. 16" carbines are supposed to be light weight, so why put a 12" rail on it? What would you ever need to mount that far forward anyway? I assume you have the standard collapsable stock, if so that $25 or so CAA cheek piece is one of the best mods you can do ... gives a great cheek weld and mounts solid. I get to run mine on full-auto occasionally as well, since I have a buddy with a couple registered full-auto lowers ... because of that I put a PRI QCB brake on it, and it really keeps it under control for a full mag. Also put a YHM flip gas-block front sight on, Bobro short front grip, and a Pentagon light. And of course some Duracoat work. I can post a pic if you'd like.

Since I'm still on the learning curve with the AR stuff, I still have some holes. What mags are best? I know there's got to be some you want to stay away from and others you absolutely have to have just like with 1911's.

I just use mil-spec mags, all of the mags I have work fine, and they all have the newer green followers, except for one of my mags that still has a black one, but I've yet to have any feeding issues or jams with any of them. Also, if you plan to do any amount of shooting with an AR, do yourself a HUGE favor and pick up a LULA, your hands will thank you.

The ones you just HAVE to have, are Magpul's P-mags. (the one you can see in the photos of my sabre) Hands down the best mags made. Do a search on You-Tube for pmag torture test, or something like that, and find this video where they try to destroy 7 or 8 of the most popular mags with an F-150... the Pmag is the only one out of them all that stood the test. Almost indistructible, and more reliable than any mil-spec mag.

If you go with a Milspec mag, i THINK (think...) you want to make sure you get the "Green" followers.

Yes, get the green followers, they are the updated ones that feed more reliably.

Well, like everything else... OUT OF STOCK! OUT OF STOCK! OUT OF STOCK!

I managed to find some 30 rounders at Sog Armory.com. I paid too much.. $19 for them and got raped on shipping... almost $15... but what the hell... they're on their way. I was able to get 3 of them. There's a "mag watch" on AR15.com so I'm keeping my eye out for them. Without a doubt, the PMag is the universally loved AR mag.

Rifles are good for home defense if you live on 25 acres of land!

I think a semi-auto shotgun would be the ideal home defense weapon.

One of these would be nice for home defense.

On second thought, maybe not........ because the bullet is liable to travel through an entire block of homes before coming to rest.;)

I've seen these rifles in action at a private club. There are a few extremely serious ex-notaloudtotalkaboutit guys who go there. I've watched one shoot 10 rounds into sub 5" group at 500 yards in about 15-20 seconds. I've seen just slightly larger groups in less than 10 seconds. That gun is absolutely amazing in the right hands.

Seth - Immediately pick up the extended everything for that firearm....especially the slide takedown. There's a great Glock book you may want to pick up, The Gun Digest Book of the Glock - Sweeney(ISBN 0-87349-558-6). It's walked me through upgrades and covered stuff I did and din't know. YMMV.

Nice piece.

I went to a gunshow this weekend and saw some nice AR mags for $15, but didn't pick any up. I did however get a new pistol grip pump shotgun, but not from the show, the only one they had at the show was overpriced and not the finish I was looking for.

The stuff is out there... but everyone is trying to gouge. It's infuriating. I found a place that had PMags... for $34.99 each! I mean c'mon... that's just about triple the normal price... the sad thing is... he'll likely sell out of them.

I went to one a couple weekends ago in Tucson and in general was not impressed with the prices. The only "deals" I saw compared to my local gun shops were on bulk ammo. I walked out of there after 2 1/2hrs of browsing empty handed.

There was a long line to get in the door, but once I got in there I didn't really find any good deals either, but I really was only looking for one thing. There were probably some ok prices to be had on ammo, and that is all I really saw people leaving with. I now remember why I don't go to gunshows anymore, I can just buy whatever I need somewhere else for just as much or less and most of the time I don't even have to leave the house.

That is just outrageous! I got my 5 pmags in may-june for $11 each.... something like $56 shipped for all 5.

Honestly, If Mr. Nobama DOES decide to impliment some kind of federal ban or restriction on these types of things, the concensus is that at the EARLIEST we would see it, would be no sooner than half way through his first term, and most likely, not until his second. I think prices will start to settle back to their normal prices here before long. By summer I would imagine.

Talking with several idnivdiuals in the business... they say that the frenzy has pretty much reached it's peak... that all the people who got all crazy and got everyone around them crazy when Obama started to look like "the guy" have begun to settle down. Nothing is going to happen tomorrow like you said. Hopefully things will just shake out over the next couple of months and supplies will come back.
