I enjoyed that one. Anyone else think Cuddy is hot?:D
Cuddy is SMOKING hot! I'd be all over that in a heartbeat :D.

House is probably the show I look forward to most each week.

One thing I know about House is that if you're his patient, you won't get a correct diagnosis until you've had 3 incorrect operations and you're right on death's doorstep.

Unless you go into the clinic. You have to remember, house only treats cases that other doctors couldn't.

I've been binging on this show for the past few days, nearly completed season 2. I used to watch Scrubs (seen all 6 seasons) and that was the first medical show that I got into. One night I decided to give house a whirl (about 5 days ago) and I realized that it was everything I wanted from scurbs, that i wasn't getting.

Scrubs is a medical show that revolves around the characters personal lives. House, is a medical show that mostly revolves on the medical side, although not realistic, but it contains enough personal information to keep it fresh. Scrubs just get bogged down with the same old story's about dating. 2 Characters, JD and Elliot, are about to hook up for the 3rd time! BOOOOORing.

Anywho, does anyone else watch House, or scrubs for that matter? I would greatly like to discuss!

I think House is amusing and watchable although not as addictive as other greats like Weeds. One thing that I find a little exasperating is their repetitive use of certain treatment suggestions - count how many times they mention prednisolone, steroids and methotrexate; I mean really, how much does a real doctor cost as a consultant on shows like this? :D It would have been so much better if they'd try to stick more rigidly to real world medicine.

It would also be epically boring. They probably suggest the common treatment methods, because it's a common treatment for many things. And when you deal with cases like they do on the show (usually something odd or rare) they do a lot of ruling out (why do I have to explain this?).

Now, did you want the last episode?

House is the only medical show I can tolerate. In fact I like this show a lot. I find Hugh Laurie's character Gregory House very fascinating, he is intillegent, powerful, rich, yet he struggles with the same problems as the common man to find hapiness. Hugh Laurie is a great actor in this show! May 12th episode was pretty messed up, next week is the season ending episode.

Two things, from someone who has seen every episode:

1) If I hear the word "Lupus" again I'll scream

2) He's fast becoming the karate kid of doctors. In every episode now 5 bad decisions, which almost kill the patient, occur before he stumbles on the real solution. I know, that's the plotline for each episode, but he's startiong to look like he doesn't know what he's doing anymore... Wasn't there an episode where someone lost a hand because they didn't find the solution in time, but at the end they ignore it and act like "well he saved his life, so it's OK..." At the end I'm like... uh, so if you would have caught this sooner the guy would have two hands...

I'm going to say that House has finally jumped the shark - but I can't put my finger on the exact episode. Any thoughts?

Sorry, I disagree. Just because they stick to real world medicine doesnt have to mean it would be boring.

I think it's more likely that the writers have a very small medical vocabulary.
BTW, both Pred and MTX are not normally given lightly as they can have adverse side effects and they certainly shouldn't be considered for use willy nilly like House and his apprentices seem to do. Maybe that’s an American thing? Maybe some of the Doctors here can chime in?

And when you deal with cases like they do on the show (usually something odd or rare) they do a lot of ruling out (why do I have to explain this?).

But wouldn't that make it "epically boring" to show that very same "ruling out" all the time? Or is this what they do in the real world? You can't have it both ways dude. ;)

The doctors on the show always bring up lupus as a possible cause because lupus is one of the diseases that often mimiks other illnesses and is very hard to diagnose. Of course with the patients on House there symptoms change like the wind so alot of the symptoms could possibly be lupus but it never is:p:confused:.

The main problem i have with this show is when the doctors go to the patients house and play detective, i find this so stupid. That is the one thing I wish they would get rid of.

People are not cars, you can't just plug in a code scanner and get that answer.

The episode where they loose the hand wasn't a simple "Oh, try cutting his hand off and see if he gets better". It was a "If we don't cut off the hand now, he looses the entire arm." That was Season 2, it was Cuddy's landscaper.

It wouldn't happen. House doesn't see everyday cases except when he's in the Clinic. There's your everyday medicine.

The writers are not the ones coming up with the ailments. The Staff has 3 or 4 doctors on hand to help with keeping the illnesses believable (though stretched).

The ruling out part is usually where I laugh the most, it's also where a lot of character development takes place. There is ALWAYS ruling out, in anything you do. Want a new TV? You don't just pick one and get everything you want. You need to search, and narrow down the choices, then pick the one that fits best. The patients always come in with symptoms. They don't just treat symptoms, they find the underlying cause. For a TV show, I think they pull this off well. The only part that would never jive in the real world is how house acts, and runs his department. But, that's why it's on TV.

Maybe you misunderstood. I didn't mean that it should show him treating people with common conditions like the flu, just that they should try to stick more closely with real world diagnostics and treatments. Seriously, they don't pump people full of corticosteroids for every other condition which is what it seems like when watching House.

Then maybe they should get some good doctors on staff or doctors with a little more imagination? :D

Of course there is always a process to go through but why is it that these guys almost always hit on the usual suspects? As Clint said, Lupus? Come on, even if every doctor everywhere always attempts to rule that out first (which I doubt) do we really need to hear it in every other episode?

I think you need to watch more House. If you think there isn't enough imagination in this show, you're pretty much ****ed anywhere else.

Why do you think this exists?

It's part of a running joke.
