I've gone HD!
Superbowl is looming and with it comes my neighborhood TV contest. For those that don't know, our good friends in my 'hood (which is actually a lot, 25-30 people) get together for Superbowl and we do a TV raffle. Their mainly my Dads friends, and some of mine that are older and considered okay to play. Everyone that wishes to attend buys a ticket for a TV draw. The ticket is 50 dollars, and you can buy 2 for $75 (nothing higher). All the money is pooled and using it we buy a TV to raffle off at the end of the game.
When we first started TVs were still expensive, and the first TV was a 32inch non flat CRT
Last year we had a 37inch LCD and before that an 80inch non HD projector + screen.
This year, we have a 42inch Philips LCD, which brings me full circle. Because Superbowl is more then a month away, and my house is where the festivities occur, I get to live with and use the TV until that day. I bought a new DVD player and HDMI cable to go with it, because SD on a 1080i capable TV is blasphemy as far as I'm concerned.
The DVD player is a Samsung Up-converting model capable of 1080P. The HDMI cable is a cheap one from a local computer Store (NCIX). Both were less then $150.
The TV in it's current (and hopfully future) home.
DVD player in it's new home.
