My Rythmik FV18 is Broken. Next steps?

Simple, I pulled the amp and wired the crown through the existing opening to the xlt input, could have done it through the rca but it was easier than the rca input, just easier that way.Just took advantage of what was there.

My point was that most people (including myself) would not feel comfortable doing that since most of us aren’t exactly DIY like you and TLS.

Sub Amp gone? I’ll just buy another one. Don’t have to mess with the sub itself. Easy peasy.

But anyway, yeah we’re jacking this thread for sure.

I have my old Epik Empire and thought of doing that too, but this one is also a servo sub and decided not to. SB-4000 is a LOT smaller yet still has good output.

Might be heavy to move to side to get to amp plate. 18inch is a larger sub.

Probably 90% of us can handle a few screws and unplug 2 wires going to the woofer though. It’s easy. Brian at Rythmik can talk them through it.

Rythmik were the first ones I called. None of their amps will directly work for the Empire.

Epik had sent me one replacement amp already free and it was a straightforward replacement. 2 or 3 wires, no soldering.

Not to my knowledge and definitely not according to the wiring. He may be referring to the replacement amp he was looking at from rythmik amp fitting. I wired the Empire exactly as it was from the factory and there was no servo board.

Yeah have an Empire myself, still doing well (altho did have an early amp failure/replacement under warranty). I misread the post it seems

Just an update,

Brian got my amp and tested it. It looks to be a bad power amp module (Hypex). He will replace and send back. Overall a pretty cheap fix. I’m thankful for that. I really like the subs so this outcome is pretty much as good as it could get.

Great news. Wonder if amps degrade not in usage? I have one upstairs collecting dust an old diy.

You’ve never heard people complain about their sub amps die and they can’t replace them and don’t know what to do?

If the sub amps were separate (QSC, Crown, etc.) they could easily replace the amp.

They don’t have to be separate to be easily replaced. People today are so fukking dumm and lazy, and can’t problem solve a runny nose for Christ sake. A few screws and a couple wires are a deal breaker? People complain about all kinds of things. “Don’t know what to do”? Whah whah. Call mommy…

I wouldn't call anyone "fukking dumm" or "lazy" when they have Doctorate and multiple degrees and just because they don't feel like doing something with a subwoofer.

Does it make you feel smarter or harder working just because you can unscrew some screws on a sub?

I know plenty of people of multiple degrees and doctorate degrees who think that people without at least an engineering degree are a bunch of idiots, especially people who spend money on audio. But it's not true either.

There are certain things we feel like doing and some things we don't feel like doing.

Advanced degrees are no insurance against not being dumb as rock in practice. I worked with a delightful Russian colleague who could sum it up. He once referred to one of our problem colleagues as:- "One of those physicians who is wrong more often than by chance!" That is one of those glorious quips I will never forget.
