I have for now dali opticon 2 mk2 fronts and svs pb 2000 pro with denon x4800h. Will dali opticon vokal be enough for room 12.7x10.7x10 room. I can also buy dali rubicon vokal but is costing me 1.90 lakhs rupees while opticon vokal costing me only 80000 rupees. Will be massive difference between the two in dialogue clarity? For 1.90 lakhs i can buy both dali opticon vokal plus dali opticon 2 mk2 1 more pair to use as surround left right. Plz suggest thank you

i will put them as rear surround that will complete my 5.1
I believe Everett is suggest you consider using an Option 2 for center too. So that your left, right and center speakers are identical. This is typically ideal.

Generally speaking, center speakers are a form-factor compromise. It's a sonically worse speaker in order to fit it under/above a TV. But if you can fit another speaker identical to your L/R, it typically will sound better. Again, very generally, but typically bookshelf or tower speakers sound better than center speakers and are free from some issues that most horisontal center speakers have.

You're better off with a vertical 2 way than an MTM center due to loobing. Ideally if you have to comprise a center, a 3 way is your best bet if you can't can't do a vertical speaker.

MTM is mid woofer - tweeter - mid woofer, and in a horizontal orientation it has a very narrow sweet spot and has lobing

will audessey not help?
Not really as it's a design issue. There are MTM centers that do measure well, but not many, that's why I suggested another bookshelf from Dali if you can swing it.

If not I'd rather see something like a KEF coaxial center for a 3 way if the Dali three way is out of reach. They have excellent measurements and their coaxial design will provide good off axis sound.

This was already discussed in another thread. Best option is to have the same 3 speakers up front but you need to have the space below the TV to fit the Opticon 2 vertically. If you lay it horizontally then it will have the same lobing issues as a 2-way centre speakers. They may also not sell the Opticon 2 as a single speaker (pairs only).

To match the timbre across the front, get one of the Dali centre speakers. The hybrid tweeter is also used in some of Dali's higher end speakers and it is supposed to improve horizontal dispersion. Tweeters begin to "beam" at higher frequencies. That is to say, the horizontal dispersion narrows as the frequency increases, so the response changes off axis. The hybrid tweeter is supposed help correct that problem. I have not seen measurements to confirm this but they have been using the hybrid design for quite a while.

i want to go with dali rubicon vokal is it good? placed horizontally and blend well with opticon 2? it is costing me 2300 usd. or i get opticon vokal for 1000 usd and i can buy 1 more pair of opticon 2 mk2 that would complete my 5.1

what is the purpose of hybrid i dont get it
The use of two tweeters is meant to increase dispersion. When I said hybrid I was referring to using two of them, not that one or the other is actually hybrid, just the setup. The Cinema will give you more headroom, but I wouldn't spend $3k on it if it were me. I think you'll be happy with the Rubicon Vokal MK2.

If you look at the original Oberon Vokal (without the dual tweeter) in this review you can see the narrowing.

That is a difficult question to answer and a decision you will have to make. It depends upon your long term goals for the system. The Opticon Vokal is designed to go with your Opticon 2 Mk2 speakers so it should have similar sound. I assume that you will be using a subwoofer with this system? The downside is that the Opticon Vokal is a basically a 2-way design. Not ideal if you plan to have friends over for movie viewing but ok for single user. Having the same 5 Opticon speakers for the bed layer should yield a nice surround experience.

The Rubicon Vokal is a true 3-way design which is preferred. That is a huge difference in price, though. What you will gain is better off-axis response for people sitting off to the side, and deeper bass from the centre. Will it match well with the Opticon 2? Can't say for certain as the Rubicon line is a step up from the Opticon. The exterior finish is also different, so how important is it that the 3 front speakers have the same look? If you spend the extra for the Rubicon centre, how long before you can afford to add the surround speakers?

How easy is it to sell speakers in your area? Could you try the Opticon Vokal and later upgrade to the Rubicon if it does not meet your expectations? If this is going to be a long term purchase and you do not plan to change anything for a number of years, spending extra for a better centre may be a better long term decision. We can provide information and recommendations but the choice in the end is going to be yours.

Choosing the right center channel speaker can make a big difference in clarity, especially for dialogue. It’s also important to think about how it matches with your other speakers and the acoustics of your room. What’s your main use for the system—movies, music, or gaming? This can help narrow down your options and get the best sound performance for your setup.

movies 70% and music 30% no gaming. I have dali opticon 2 mk2 fronts and room is normal bedroom untreated.

When I first set up my system, I purchased new front speakers but had to go with a used centre speaker from an older model but same make (Paradigm). I really noticed the difference between the fronts and the centre and while the kids did not care, it bothered me. When I finally purchased the matching centre there was a big improvement in dialogue clarity. For movies, most of the dialogue comes from the centre, so if you do not plan to upgrade later I would probably recommend the better centre speaker and then add your surround speakers later. That's a very expensive centre though. It would be nice if you could compare them in a store to see if it is worth the extra money.
