No a public school, which in the UK vernacular means a private fee paying school. It is a Benedictine Abbey between the cities of Wells and Bath in Somerset in England. It is a region known as the Mendips and not far from Cheddar Gorge. This is a very steep and long hill. There are lots of caves at cheddar, which was, and still are used to age the Cheddar Cheese. The Cheddar cheese you know has only a distant resemblance to real cheddar cheese. Surdyks in Dinkytown get in a good supply of cloth wrapped Cheddar cheese aged in the caves of Cheddar at this time of year. It commands a premium price though. In the early days of the motor car, 120 plus years ago, a yearly race was held to see which car could not only get up Cheddar Gorge but the fastest. It was a huge advertising claim to not only get up the Gorge, but win. This race is re-enacted yearly with cars of the period to race the climb up Cheddar Gorge.
Bath has hot springs, and has the finest preserved Roman Baths in the world. Bath became a center for invalids and people with arthritis to "take the waters." It did help arthritis but the reason was not discovered until the twentieth century. The water was radioactive as they are Uranium hot springs. After Marie Curie discovered radioactivity and X-rays, these were used to treat arthritis until people realized radiation caused cancer and bone marrow suppression.
George Frederick Handel was a frequent visitor to Bath and gave concerts there. As far as we know he did not suffer from arthritis. He lived to a good old age. He was alleged to be popular with the ladies, but never married. We know nothing of his sexuaity. Despite one bankruptcy, he was the first composer/performer to make a fortune. In terms then, he died a multi millionaire and left his fortune to charities. He was a benefactor to multiple charities, and put on concerts for them. Even for his rehearsals huge traffic jams of carriages and pedestrians would occur. He was the first 'rockstar' musician. When you listen to his works you can understand why. To this day his works are huge crowd pleasers and fill the concert halls.
