Oops read that wrong @William Lemmerhirt . I wasn't aware of Schaak getting bought out by S.O. M.
Iirc, when schaak went out of business, SOM bought all their inventory. Somewhere along the line they turned into Best Buy. So I guess DLK was local as Schaak was on Snelling ave.
I live in the BRD area. Or the BLA as they say on the local radio, lol

Nice. Sort of local in a way! Schaak had numerous locations. I bought a system from them around '76 or '77 at Southdale in Edina. The system had a h/k 330B.

I just called Midwest and they sell them at the store for around $3 less each. I might just head up there tomorrow.

They are in Roseville, they say they are not Chinese knock offs and are accurate replacements. At that price you can't go wrong. If you go to Roseville and buy the woofers, I bet you will get a better deal.
Yeah, been there a few times over the years. Do you need anything while I'm there? I'll probably go tomorrow, since they are closed on Saturdays. Thanks for looking into it!

Thanks, there is nothing I need at the moment. My speakers seem in working order at the moment.

Wow! I was 2 or 3yo then lol. In the early 80’s I discovered my dad’s reel to reel. It wasn’t great, but I loved it.

The magnets on the replacements look to be twice the size as on the original woofers.

I was born in 1960. We count from 1 to 10. Not zero to 9. So does that mean I was born in the 50's?

The back of the RS 1000's say nothing about impedance. Midwest apparently stocks 4 and 8 ohm of this replacement. Which should I be requesting? I am no genius at that stuff.

There is one woofer in each speaker, correct? If that is the case it could be either. Take out one of the drivers and measure the DC resistance of the VC with your multimeter. If it is less than 4 ohms you need to the four ohm version, if it is more than four ohms you need the 8 ohm version. The DC resistance will always be lower than the impedance of the driver.

Well no? I was born in ‘74. So in 76 or 77 I would have been 2 or 3 depending on if you bought that setup in 76 or 77. Did I miss something?

No, sorry. It was a non-sequitur. I was just saying 1960 is the end of the 1950's. But only if you look at it in a weird way I suppose.

That was the year I went to Downside Abbey at Stratton-on the-Fosse.

Is that a boy's town or some such?
No a public school, which in the UK vernacular means a private fee paying school. It is a Benedictine Abbey between the cities of Wells and Bath in Somerset in England. It is a region known as the Mendips and not far from Cheddar Gorge. This is a very steep and long hill. There are lots of caves at cheddar, which was, and still are used to age the Cheddar Cheese. The Cheddar cheese you know has only a distant resemblance to real cheddar cheese. Surdyks in Dinkytown get in a good supply of cloth wrapped Cheddar cheese aged in the caves of Cheddar at this time of year. It commands a premium price though. If you want to know what Cheddar cheese really tastes like, then head to Surdyks.

In the early days of the motor car, 120 plus years ago, a yearly race was held to see which car could not only get up Cheddar Gorge but the fastest. It was a huge advertising claim to not only get up the Gorge, but win. This race is re-enacted yearly with cars of the period to race the climb up Cheddar Gorge.

Bath has hot springs, and has the finest preserved Roman Baths in the world. Bath became a center for invalids and people with arthritis to "take the waters." It did help arthritis but the reason was not discovered until the twentieth century. The water was radioactive as they are Uranium hot springs. After Marie Curie discovered radioactivity and X-rays, these were used to treat arthritis until people realized radiation caused cancer and bone marrow suppression.

George Frederick Handel was a frequent visitor to Bath and gave concerts there. As far as we know he did not suffer from arthritis. He lived to a good old age. He was alleged to be popular with the ladies, but never married. We know nothing of his sexuaity. Despite one bankruptcy, he was the first composer/performer to make a fortune. In terms then, he died a multi millionaire and left his fortune to charities. He was a benefactor to multiple charities, and put on concerts for them. Even for his rehearsals huge traffic jams of carriages and pedestrians would occur. He was the first 'rockstar' musician. When you listen to his works you can understand why. To this day his works are huge crowd pleasers and fill the concert halls.

I am going to plan to go to Surdyks in the near future! I like a good cheese for sure. The first I ever heard of Reggiano was from Columbo on a Columbo episode. He was eating a plate of it left at a murder scene! Did you attend the races back in the day?

I got the new, replacement woofers installed and the speakers sound really terrific. I have them hooked up to my computer amp, 8" Yamaha sub off so I can really hear them. Playing The Alpha Band "Statue Makers of Hollywood" (T-Bone Burnett's band from late 70's) LP (recorded) and I am hearing plenty of more detail. I am impressed!
Now, sub on and I am rockin'!
