6k 118 pounds wow those must be some spectacular speakers I can’t dream of probably ever affording them , certainly can’t carry those. SDA sounds legitimate they look like true bipoles . Can’t even carry my plasma tv or sub.
One day you will be able to afford them!

At long last, we finally bring you our review of the Polk L800 floorstanding speakers. The L800 is a unique and relatively complex design for a loudspeaker, but what it delivers is one of the best soundstages that you could ever hope to hear from stereo sound from any speaker set at any price. Its advantage is the SDA technology, updated and improved from its former incarnations, now dubbed the ‘SDA PRO.’ The SDA technology does have some catches though, such as some rather particular placement requirements, a strong preference for single-ended amplifiers, the need for an extra cable that joins the speakers, and a bit more treble than the highly neutral response that the L800s produce with the SDA disengaged. However, what we get for these trade-offs is a speaker that images like none other, regardless of price.

Great in formational article, I have a question, is Carver TM 35 Amp, an amplifier a with single-ended output SDA amp?, and if it is would a single amp satisfy or would you recommend a dual amp, specially with the output wattage they produce?.

This is an old review. You should ask by using @gene otherwise he will never see your questions

I wonder what the sound would be like if you also ran the signal through the Carver Sonic Hologram Generator. This was the first attempt at cancerlling interaural crosstalk and was introduced a few years before the original Polk SDA's.

Carver had some limitation due to its analogue era tech and no longer available. But for curious minds they can always try CTXMatrix.

interaural crosstalk!??? That’s not something I’ve heard of . Do modern avrs fix this ? Polk legend is toast no more SDA's.

AVRs don't fix it but there is one company making a software solution to it but it's big money if I recall right.

Several have them but more like effects

Denon/Marantz having DTS Virtual:X, Dolby Height Virtualization, or Virtual Surround modes that “improve 3D imaging” — and some manuals mention “no crosstalk” in digital multi-channel processing.

Yamaha having CINEMA DSP, Virtual Cinema DSP, or “Wide/Enhanced Stereo” modes that widen the soundstage similarly to XTC effects.

And that older Yamaha models had patents related to sound image localization/crosstalk circuits.

That was too loose. Those modes do not implement true interaural crosstalk cancellation (the psychoacoustic technique that uses inverse filters/HRTFs to prevent the left speaker’s sound from reaching the right ear and vice versa, creating a headphone-like 3D stage with binaural from just two speakers).

You can always add them. several offer it like BACCH, HAF, Soundpimp, CTXMatrix and few others. Here you get sound like binaural over loudspeaker.

My yamaha tsr-5810 has a lost microphone, so I can’t run room correction. But it does sound good for only a 7.2ch receiver . Timing might be off though without room correction….
