Please give me feedback on this proposed system

I would like some feedback on this proposed home cinema/hi-fi/gaming set up.

I’m renting, so unfortunately I can’t install in-ceiling speakers, so will have to make do with upfiring speakers for Atmos.

I’ve attached a photo of the living space so you can see what I’m working with; not an ideal set up by any means but I work with what I’ve got. Where I have marked A is the wall where the TV will go. I know that having empty space to the right side is bad; I will try and mitigate it with a loaded bookshelf or similar.

I am based in Germany.

Processor: Anthem AVM-70 8K

Power Amps: NAD M23 for the mains, maybe something from Emotiva for the centre and surrounds etc. like the Emotiva BasX A7. Or I could just get an M28 but I think that level of quality is unnecessary for this setup since I’m not going to be driving the surrounds or heights particularly hard.

Main left right speakers: Perlisten S5m w/stands – I had originally intended to get the floorstanding R7t or R5t, but I figured there was no need for speakers of that size in a room my size, better to spend the money on the higher quality of the S series.

Centre Speaker: Perlisten S5c or possibly something cheaper as the Perlisten is probably unecessary for my size of system. Perhaps an Arendal 1723

Sub: Don’t know. Maybe a couple of SVS or Arendal subs. I can’t run them optimally anyway since I am in an apartment and don’t want to annoy the neighbours. Something ported.

Rear speakers: SVS Ultra Surrounds or SVS Prime Satellites since they’re a lot less important.

Atmos speakers: Kef R8 Meta – hopefully they would fit ok on top of the Perlistens. Or SVS Prime Elevation/Arendal 1961 Heights

I’ll leave off the set up for sources since I already have all of them and am not looking to make changes.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I'd honestly just skip the atmos speakers since you can't mount them in the ceiling.

I'd also stick with Perlisten for the center so as to match your l/r.

You don't want to skimp out on the surrounds. Willing to do Perlisten there too?

One of those two subwoofer brands should be good. I have a svs pb 1000 pro myself. But not certain if it's enough for this room.

Just get the best 5ch speakers you can get use the Atmos Money torward that . I’m running 4ch from 5 it sounds perfectly for movies or tv . While people say bi amping is useless I tried it because I have 2 -3 unused channels.
I’d suggest largest subs you can fit or carry in a room that size .

Some have had some buggy experiences with the Anthem units, I'd probably be fine with a Marantz pre-pro myself, and while very nice the NAD amps aren't cheap either, I'd be looking at something less expensive using Hypex or Purifi models (like Audiophonics or Boxem perhaps). Perlisten could be very nice, but Arendal is quite a good option for speakers and subs, but I'd probably stick to one or the other for the set. I'd skip the bouncy Atmos speakers.

Wish I had that kind of money to drop on an avr my car didn’t even cost 8k closer to 7-7.5 and it’s falling apart junker basically sold for mint condition price Corolla. Still runs ok just loud and can’t go past 60 on highway well.

Why are you spending so much money on amps and a receiver do you plan on getting very low sensitivity speakers ? Avr go outdated pretty often , might as well get a processor if you’re dropping 8k . Although you’d need an amp for every channel and might have to lower the budget per channel.
I can’t tell any difference in sound quantity from my $1500 msrp avr and the one I got used for $40 honestly… you may just be wasting money that could be invested in speakers .

Oops, I misread. I thought it was $8K, but it was 8K-Video Resolution.

Yes, I am a big fan of the 8K-Resolution Digital Cameras like the RED Monstro, RED Weapon Helium, and Panavision DXL2 that are used to shoot movies.

As for my $7500 Denon AVP-A1HD, I used to spend a lot more when I was younger, but now I spend a little less. If the Marantz AV10 and AMP10 were available back then (instead of the AVP-A1), I would have gotten the matching set.

I think the Anthem to this dudes system is a solid choice, but the random speakers all over the place, not so much. To sub or not to sub, that is the question..... He should just get one sub and start with that. He said he lives in an apt and doesn't want to bother neighbors. So I would start with one and if it doesn't bother the neighbors, jump to two. He should start with a simple 5.1 system and go from there.

I think for many of us who live in the USA, warranty service is usually more straight forward or more accessible or available. But for other people in other continents, it might be more difficult.

So no matter which brand you buy, just make sure you do your homework to see how you would get warranty service. If you can't even get a hold of the customer service BEFORE you buy, you can forget about it AFTER you buy.

I’m also not sure about if Anthem is still buggy or not. Think Denon or Marantz or Yamaha are better bets.

And IMHO, the center channel speaker is not a good place to compromise. Maybe go to a lower series so the front 3 can match.

I see no reason to match sub brands. Ported dual subs if you are able to be loud where you are renting. Likely you may need to replace plate amps at some point so being able to swap a plate amp to repair it is a consideration over time. I’m not sure what brands are great in Germany though.

Yeah if op is going to cheap out on center he’s be better off spending more in two towers currently I’m running phantom with towers it sounds great. Wish I could afford anthem avr lol so pricey

This situation would work only if you're sitting like 1.5 meters away from the wall for the right angles. If you're too far away like well over 2 plus meters. It's not going to sound overhead like it's Designed to be. And chances are people tend to sit closer to the back rather than the front. And that means the front heights will blend in with the front stage and cause a large hole overhead.

I originally had SVS surrounds and rear surrounds with my perlisten LCRs (S7t &C). After about a couple of weeks the SVS started to grate on me, sounding brassy and I got listener’s fatigue listening to auromatic upmixed music. I did mix in Revel M8s for my Mid Heights (size dilemma) with good results. I would suspect Arendal would blend well also. I would stick with Perlisten for the LCR though.
