He just meant that you, as a Canadian, suffer from the
false consciousness syndrome (link to britannica.com
) and the best remedy for this is for you to experience some cognitive dissonance by googling for links to prove his well-meaning vague claims and figure out what he meant. It's all for your benefit, really!
This only applies if you dare to suggest, as a foreigner, that there are room for improvements in USA.
We don't need foreigners to point out that this country needs improvement. The problem is that you guys are telling us what we need and you, specifically, are a dik about it. Also, you aren't immersed in our BS, so your opinions about real life scenarios mean absolutely nothing because of the disconnect- I don't think you would believe what happens here, so I'll post a link to the MKE police call log from one night last week..
You have commented about me listening to a scanner- there's a reason for doing that- when I hear sirens in this area almost constantly, I want to know what's happening. Early on Aug 9, I woke up around midnight and at that point, I was wide awake, so I turned on the TV, to watch until I was too bored to stay awake. I heard a siren that was close, so I turned on the app. I heard calls about a car chase and it continued coming toward this general area at a low speed after hitting the spike strips soon after leaving the highway. Then, it came very close and they were still on the major thoroughfare that's two streets to the East before turning on the street to the North of where I live, went about 1/4 mile, turned to head South and turned again, to head East. At that point. I heard A LOT of sirens and started to see the flashing lights directly in front of my house and just before I looked out of the window to see what was happening, I heard a scraping noise- this was when the lead cop used the PIT maneuver to spin the car around. When I reached the window, I saw 10-12 cops who were standing next to their squad cars, guns aimed at the car they had been chasing, yelling for them to put their hands out through the windows. At that time, I moved away from the front of my house because I was in a position where someone in the chased car could have shot through one of the windows. Fortunately, they had tossed their gun(s) and didn't make any stupid moves. They were quickly taken into custody but as they were being chased, one of the passengers called or texted his sister to tell her where he was. She showed up and started ranting about racism, how whitey kills black people with their guns (so far from the truth it's incredible) and all kinds of noise- she was REALLY loud, too. Some of us who live on this street went out to see what was happening and not long after, the sister, who was about 50 yards away, threatened to come back with a gun to kill me and burn my house- threatened some of the others, too. I asked a cop about whether she can make that kind of threat and was told it falls under 'Freedom of Speech' and that they didn't want to inflame the situation. Great- she (kind of )knows where I live- what if she's actually stupid/crazy enough to follow through or tell someone else to do it?
Ever had that happen near your house? What would you do?
We hear gunfire at night very frequently, but it comes from beyond the border this small city shares with Milwaukee but it's rare that a chase enters this area- it's easy to enter, but much harder to find a way out.
