I already have Atmos/DTSX.
Huh. So that’s where you’ve been?

I’ll go 4K one day. I just happen to have a beautiful plasma. And three kids and a mortgage and two small businesses etc.
So ya know…

Well I’ve found plenty of Atmos content! Don’t fee fleeced at all. Although some of it could be better.

I am confused too. Atmos was around before 4K even hit the market, though most of the recent releases are all on 4K re-releases to get the higher audio formats. I checked my catalog and was surprised I had about 10 films that already had Atmos on BD. Early on there wasn't a ton of content, but now there seems to be plenty.

Yeah there’s actually hundreds of titles with Atmos. A surprising number are on regular BD too. I like that, but I’m not above buying a 4K version if I care about the track. I’ll. Have a 4K display someday anyway so. Plus there’s a lot of streaming titles with Atmos. How they compare with the disk version is often up for debate.

Most of the 4K discs include a physical BD as well. I had already bought a few for that reason. I actually bought my Oppo 205 before I bought my 4K TV lol, because I needed to get one before they weren't available anymore.

Many of my favorite movies are not on UHD Disc. Some new releases don't even come with the UHD version, which means no Atmos.

There should be thousands of movies in UHD with Atmos and DTS-X by now. Don't let me get started on streaming. Outside of Netflix, a lot of their content is DV and Atmos, most streaming companies feature movies and TV shows in SDR and 5.1

People who refuse to upgrade to 4k are really missing out. This includes missing out on Dolby atmos and dts x. What are you waiting for?
It's time to join in.
more and more content is being made in atmos. Halo for example has among the best atmos sound mixes I've ever heard for a TV series disk release or not! And this is after two episodes

Not sure who this is for, but I have a great Atmos system. I’m not refusing 4K. See post 2483.

As your still stuck with a 1080p it clearly is that your refusing to go 4k. If your not then you would have done so already.

If you really are into good sound and movies, you can't go wrong with Atmos, Auro 3D, DTS X, and 4K. Although, I have seen some of my Blu Rays look much better than some 4k's

To be fair those old plasma displays hold up really well even by today's 4k standards.

Agreed. It’s not like I haven’t been window shopping either. I just have 4000 other life commitments that don’t revolve around my moms basement.

My daughter's 1080p Sony 75" TV looks as good as a 4k tv and she has no reason to upgrade as it works flawlessly. No one knows it's not a 4k TV.

I have to admit I don't really notice any difference between 1080p and 4k. Especially at my seating distance.

HDR however made a difference for me. That does seem to make it pop more. Not quite, but closer to plasma. I still think plasma displays look as nice, or nicer than some modern hdr 4k tvs.

But NOT the SAME movie (4K “Death on the Nile” vs 2K “Death on the Nile”). Apples to apples.

But, of course, 720p “Death on the Nile 2022” will look 400 times better than 4K, 8K, 16K “RoboCop 1987“.:D

I haven’t seen a 480p Death on the Nile, but I bet it looks better than 4K RoboCop 1987. :D

Yeah, there are a lot of good displays out there. Iirc my eyes are 16’ from my display so bigger will be better. I’m looking at something in the 80+ range when I do upgrade. A projector would be fun, but as this is my living room, it wouldn’t fit in very well. Still, my current picture is excellent, and a 7.3.4 speaker layout keeps me happy. Upgraditis notwithstanding lol.

I think HDR is one of the best parts of uhd. Higher resolution is just icing on the cake.
