Are These Finds Good Deals?

The manual is pretty good for this model. Power specs are with 2 channels driven and it gives other power specs at different distortion levels and impedances. I think the price is little high given the retail value.
Also, Onkyo is not on the list of recommended AVR brands nowadays for doubtful reliability.

Is that because of the bad batch of HDMI boards burning out a while back or something? I'm hearing their newer stuff is more reliable, tho they're not on my short list for avrs either.

Their new stuff may be more reliable, but time will tell us if they really are.

These look kind of cool. I don't have the room for them. I heard some decent sounding ML Electrostatics at Best Buy. I don't really understand how they work

Those do look nice. How much??
They are $1,000. I'd make a crazy offer if I had any way to place these. But I don't think I do so I will have to pass. But love the wood surrounding the speakers here

Those big Magnepans are light on bass output. If you like bass, you will be disappointed. See Post#4 below:

Yeah that's the common complaint with electrostats. Don't Martin Logan build some of theirs on top of a regular driver in a box to supplement bass?

I wouldn't tell as I'm not much familiar with electrostatic loudspeakers. The only ones which I listened to about 60 years ago were amazing for listening to classical chamber music. They took much floor space, they could not handle wide dynamics and were also light on bass output then.

Here we go.

That's their Neolith speaker. I thought I'd seen those before.

That looks like a dual driver ported box. I think that's getting toward one of their better speakers. I'd love to listen to 'em.

*Edit: $100k a pair for those!

They would fit in a large room and their color is not very compatible with those of the usual living room for instance. Moreover, they must have a rather high price tag.
I just read over the specs and they list 23 hz - 22k hz +/- 3 dB. Not bad. I guess the front driver is a 12" mid bass in a sealed compartment and the rear firing one is a ported 15" so those specs seem realistic. I completely agree about the color of those, but they come in a variety. I'm sure black. Maybe even a veneer or faux wood. The price is just ridiculous, lol.

I missed a chance to get a pair of RBH 1266-SE's for $100. No, I didn't leave off a zero.

It was on FB Marketplace for a day. But my wife was going through a spell (these COVID days are hard on healthcare workers, if no one's noticed...) and I didn't want to leave her for 3 hours that night to go buy speakers. I think the seller took some time to research what he had, and then pulled them off the market the next day.

Ah well, can't win em all. I did the right thing, but that's the one that got away. :(
Ha! Sometimes you wait a bit and you might get lucky!

The guy reposted them... this time for a little more but with some extra stuff. I didn't hesitate!

The drivers are all in pristine condition (the aluminum drivers don't make for good pics but they're blemish-free). The original owner (not the seller) was using them in a garage (!) so the cabinets weren't looking the best. The top caps were in terrible shape so I chipped and peeled them off:

I'm still figuring out a solution for replacing those. I have some ideas.

Included in the haul was an RBH SA-400 subwoofer amp:

It works but has a ton of static in the knobs and switches. I've ordered some contact cleaner and will see how it helps.

I don't normally buy stuff to flip it unless it's a truly ridiculous deal. This was a truly ridiculous deal.

$25 for the Eosone RSF-600 was also a truly ridiculous deal, but I'm keeping those.

The 1266SE's sound great. They've got a "smooth" personality to them, helped along with the Vifa soft dome tweeters. The side 12" woofers can definitely bring it when called for.

It's funny how many speakers I've gotten over the last few years that fall into the category of "if I had found these in 2018 I would have stopped shopping around and never bought the T&A's." For sure these, the McIntoshes, the Von Schweikert VR-4, possibly the Paradigm Eclipse, and maybe even the VR-33's. What a great journey to get to hear so many different speakers.
