It looks like COVID cases in Europe are starting to increase again, and there's speculation that rates will increase in the U.S. shortly as well. I'm not so sure about the predicitions for the U.S. (my batting average with regards to predicting COVID is rather (ahem) modest, so I'm officially taking an "I'm not sure" stance on all COVID predictions)

>>>In the past couple of weeks, the UK and several countries in Europe, including Germany, France and Switzerland, are experiencing a new wave. At least 12 countries, geographically extending from Finland to Greece, are experiencing new increases in cases, some quite marked, such as Austria exceeding its pandemic peak, and Finland with an 85% increase from the prior week. Many of these countries are also showing a rise in hospital admissions.

This is the sixth warning from the UK and Europe to the United States.

Indications within the United States support the idea that new wave is already getting started. Wastewater surveillance is relatively sparse in the United States, but 15% of the 410 sites where it was conducted between 24 February to 10 March 2022 showed a greater than 1000% increase compared with the prior 15-day period. Also, the BA.2 variant is gaining steam in the United States and is now accounting for more than 30% of new cases.<<<

The WSJ is reporting that study results to be presented today show that ivermectin is ineffective (this appears to be a report on the results of the TOGETHER trial)(second link below).

I suspect this study will have no effect on the ivermectin believers. Nevertheless, at least for me, this is more evidence that a belief in ivermectin is not rational.

>>>Researchers testing repurposed drugs against Covid-19 found that ivermectin didn’t reduce hospital admissions, in the largest trial yet of the effect of the antiparasitic on the disease driving the pandemic. . . .

The latest trial, of nearly 1,400 Covid-19 patients at risk of severe disease, is the largest to show that those who received ivermectin as a treatment didn’t fare better than those who received a placebo. . . .

There was no indication that ivermectin is clinically useful,” said Edward Mills, one of the study’s lead researchers and a professor of health sciences at Canada’s McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. . . .

“This is the first large, prospective study that should really help put to rest ivermectin and not give any credibility to the use of it for Covid-19,” said Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, who reviewed the findings.<<<

Thanks for posting. The Edward Mills interview was informative.

Saw yesterday that the New Hampshire House passed a proposal to allow for it to be dispensed OTC. This will be in addition to the already approved Paxlovid and molnupiravir.

It passed along strict party lines. If anything, hopefully it will stop people that demand it from getting the animal versions. That was/is a big issue in the state.

So, the only people to benefit from this will be the manufacturers and pharmacies. Well...I suppose it will benefit the suckers who buy it also, as I assume it will be properly dosed to prevent people crapping themselves to death.

Ivermectin, as a treatment for Covid-19, has been proven beyond any doubt to be ineffective.

How does allowing it to be purchased over the counter benefit anyone?

I wondered the same thing.

Other than political benefit for the politicians supporting the law (assuming they have constituents who are ivermectin believers), the only thing I can come up with is that some of the conspiracy types might view difficulty in getting ivermectin as evidence that the medical deep state is trying to keep ivermectin away from them because it is cheap and effective (i.e. the medical deep state wants to force people to be treated with expensive, ineffective drugs). Thus, making ivermectin available over the counter would eliminate this "evidence" of a medical deep state conspiracy.

I can't prove my hypothesis, of course. What goes on in the minds of conspiracy believers is rather mysterious to me.

Edit: I guess another potential benefit is that it might take some of the pressure off hospitals to provide ivermectin. I've read quite a few reports of doctors and hospital staff being threatened and even physically attacked by family members of patients who believe hospitals are killing people by withholding ivermectin.

For those who want to take it for their own reasons it would probably stop the crazies from taking animal level doses which seemed to be an issue in NH. Also, at least in my area, there are doctors that do believe it works and would prescribe it if there were no rules against. So there would be some supervision of dosage.

I've read quite a few reports of doctors and hospital staff being threatened and even physically attacked by family members of patients who believe hospitals are killing people by withholding ivermectin.
Here's an example:

>>HELENA, Mont. — One Montana hospital went into lockdown and called police after a woman threatened violence because her relative was denied her request to be treated with ivermectin. . . . And in neighboring Idaho, a medical resident said police had to be called to a hospital after a covid patient’s relative verbally abused her and threatened physical violence because she would not prescribe ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine, “drugs that are not beneficial in the treatment of covid-19,” she wrote.

These three conflicts, which occurred from September to November, underline the pressure on health care workers to provide unauthorized covid treatments, particularly in parts of the country where vaccination rates are low, government skepticism is high, and conservative leaders have championed the treatments.<<<

Here's another example:

>>>Matters came to a head back in November while he was dealing with a "particularly horrible case" involving an unvaccinated 38-year-old married father-of-three who had had to have his foot amputated.

The medic recalled the "look of terror in his eyes" and the way the man repeatedly begged "don't let me die" and "give me the vaccine." But, as the doctor explained to him, it was "too late." Any chance of a final goodbye with his family was also wrecked when "they refused to wear masks" in hospital.

Worse still, the man's wife called the hospital and "ordered" the doctor cure her husband with "ivermectin and vitamin C & D."

"I did not manage to get the words of the sentence fully out of my mouth when I felt the fist strike my face and heard the screamed words 'You murderer!'" he wrote. "I fell backwards, tripped, and plopped onto the pavement, the back of my head striking asphalt," they recalled. "I vaguely heard the words being screamed about ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine... I heard 'you could have saved him if you listened!' I tasted blood from the top of my lip."<<<

Disclaimer: I'm not sure if this incident has been verified.

This may sound harsh, but it might better if these people just get their ivermectin and die at home. I don't think there's a cure for this kind of abject stupidity.

I say let natural selection run it's course – sooner rather than later.

Under proper supervision, the dose of ivermectin to treat Covid-19 is ZERO mg/day.

Those doctors should loose their license to practice medicine. The state medical board should get after those quacks for malpractice.

I still don't understand how a dewormer has any relation to curing a virus. "Worms" like what animals commonly get, are not a virus. Kind of like giving you Aspirin to treat schizophrenia.

Ivermectin has been sold for a number of years as a low-cost generic drug. Big Pharma won't touch a product unless its still under patent protection, allowing a high price.
Ummmmmmmmmm then it will benefit Ivermectin? Yeah Ivermectin! :D

In the earlier article, Mills mentioned that on its own its useless, but as part of a yet undiscovered cocktail of drugs it maybe effective. He points out how they treat HIV as an example. They are continuing to study different combinations of drugs to come up with something.

On a somewhat related topic, plenty of shady players have been making plenty pedeling ivermectin. It's ironic that many ivermectin believers apparently believe vaccines are a scam to make money, but then fall for this type of thing:

>>>Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the network of pharmacies run by businessmen Alpesh and Manish Patel was struggling. At least 15 of its 82 pharmacies had been shuttered or sold amid mounting debts and mismanagement. . . .
But then the pandemic presented an opportunity: loosened rules for telehealth and long-distance prescription writing combined with massive demand for unproven COVID-19 treatments could mean big money. And the Patels soon capitalized.

First, they were able to take advantage of an influx of cash from the federal government. Between the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and April 2021, companies registered to the Patels received at least $7 million in loans from the federal government’s Paycheck Protection Program, according to an analysis of corporate records shared with TIME by a Texas-based medical litigation support firm, Reason and Results. . . .

And with the help of a $173,733 PPP loan, it would soon become a key player in a booming industry that fills telemedicine prescriptions for bogus COVID-19 treatments like ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine through a partnership with America’s Frontline Doctors (AFLD), a controversial right-wing political group.

From Nov. 2020 to Sept. 2021, Ravkoo filled at least 340,000 prescriptions, amounting to an estimated $8.5 million in drug costs, according to recently hacked data published by The Intercept. Nearly half the prescriptions were for ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine, according to the hacked data; another 30% were for zinc or azithromycin, two other medications which health authorities say are also ineffective in treating or preventing COVID-19 but which anti-vaccine groups have been promoting. Ravkoo often charged patients exorbitant prices for these COVID-19 “wonder drugs.”<<<

That's right. Its a classic form of Chaos theory. A black market will result from either banning something or restricting something that has a demand. Nature finds a way..
