According to this article, some of Sloly's worse critics supported defunding the police and now there are a lack of resources. Maybe they can send some community service personnel to talk to the truckers? The community service angle hasn't worked out well in NYC since they don't have guns.
There were critics within the OPS itself, too.
Peter Sloly resigns as Ottawa's police chief as critics denounce his handling of convoy protest | CBC News
Sloly's resignation comes as sources tell CBC News he's been accused of bullying and volatile behaviour that has damaged relations with senior leadership and compromised the force's ability to cope with the truck protest.

Multiple sources have told CBC News that Sloly allegedly belittled and berated senior Ottawa Police Service officers in front of their colleagues, and has failed to put forward a solid operations plan to end the crisis.

Sources say he allegedly has come into conflict with members of the OPP and RCMP tasked with assisting the city's law enforcement efforts during the crisis.

Sources both inside and outside the police service said Sloly has a short fuse and is quick to yell at members of his senior leadership team.

Since the protest and subsequent occupation of downtown Ottawa began, at least three incident response commanders have been reassigned after working with Sloly, the sources said.

One incident commander who was reassigned described Sloly as having no rationale for his decisions.

"This will all come out in a review," another reassigned incident commander told CBC News. "I can't say any more."

The sources spoke to CBC News on condition they not be named because of concerns about career repercussions.

Apparently, Sloly wasnt liked either in the last police force he was part of. As a resident of Ottawa, I think the Ottawa police force has to rank as one of the worst in the country having problems with racism, sexism, and use extreme force when unwarranted, especially against non whites. I have no respect for them whatsoever. As always there are some fine outstanding individuals within the force but as a whole and especially with the leadership, they are corrupt.

Best immunity comes from being vaccinated before being infected & recovering because the infection won't be as severe.

Needing a vaccination every six months tells me that the vaccine may not be a full dose but if the higher dose is given, more people may have complications because this is still a relatively new virus. However, arguing that it doesn't endanger anyone if someone isn't vaccinated is wrong- if they carry the virus while infected, they DO shed it and you even posted this.
You can carry the virus with or without the vaccine. You can spread the virus with or without the vaccine…thus there is little or no difference between the two. I do not see the “wrong” in being unvaccinated. Help me follow your logic.

Seriously, I have no life.

If you have been vaccinated, the added immunity fights the virus, so it can't live in the host for long and won't replicate well. The amount of shedding will naturally be lower from someone who has been vaccinated because most of the virus will die off and/or be prevented from infecting host cells. This virus doesn't live long on most surfaces and unless someone is licking an infected person where the virus has been deposited on their skin, infection by contact is extremely unlikely. On most hard, non porous surfaces, it lives longer unless a persistent disinfectant has been used on it. Don't lick handrails, shopping cart handles, doorknobs and watch when someone else handles something you might buy- you won't be infected unless someone coughs or sneezes in your immediate area and even then, wearing a mask does help if it conforms to N95 rating and you aren't in the cloud of aerosol particles- the droplets fall out of the air much faster.

Does that make sense?

Stats indicate that the death rate of the unvaccinated is significantly higher than those who received 2 vaccinations. Furthermore, ICU admission of COVID is predominately, the unvaccinated. Its nice to Darwin weeding out the dummy antivaxers who refuse the vaccine as their God given right.

The outages happened and was guessing it was cyber related. Not unreasonable given it just happened to the Ukrainian banks on Tuesday.

I put up the Twitter post as example of how crazy things can get and destabilise the system.

Ha, would never trust Twitter for real news or much of anything, certainly not a company that censures free speech.

The strangest thing about this controversy is that beside crossing boarders long distance truckers are the least likely to infect anyone. They are by themselves pretty much 24 -7. Except for the occasional truck stop meal, they are alone in their trucks. Mandates? Probably unnecessary.

Exactly. Thats why Im wondering why now both our countries imposed these restrictions. I wonder what the hidden poltical agenda is? Its too bad these fringe protestors (not the truckers) have ruined the message. I still think these fringe anarchists should be castrated to prevent "STUPID" from being propogated into the future.

The fringe people always show up sooner or later. The longer this drags out, more of the fringe will come out.

Trudeau escalated and inflamed the situation to 11 too quickly. He should have just kept a level head, waited a few days, and carve out the truckers from the mandates. Yes loss of face but it would have prevented what this has spiraled into. Chaos and very un Canadian my friends have said..

Hell the US excluded certain groups for various reasons. Biden’s executive orders last September did not apply to members of Congress, undocumented immigrants, welfare recipients or initially the US Postal Service. Biden does not have the power to force them to get vaccinated but Congress does. If mandates are so important to protect the public, then why hasn't Congress acted with respect to those groups.

The USPS is still fighting it.

I actually somewhat agree with your point. I am just absolutely opposed to this method of protesting it. While they may feel quite strongly about it, to me, it's like protesting mandatory seatbelts - utterly ludicrous. Plus, the people who organized it are not truckers and have ulterior motives.

It's actually the fringe who started this. The organizers are not truckers, they are using truckers as a vehicle (see what I did there?) for their loony causes. The Teamster does not support this, nor does the Canadian Trucking Alliance.

While Trudeau used some overheated language, the Federal government had taken no concrete action until invoking the Emergencies Act, this week. Until then, it was a provincial/municipal issue. If he'd talked nice about them, they weren't going to pack up and go home. And, negotiating with people who had called for the government to resign was a non-starter.

I didn't start following this until the truckers were actually in Ottawa. The fringe started it and inflamed it, still it seems enough of the truckers strongly believe in their acts to go through this. All the interested parties have to deal with the situation in front of them now and its long term repercussions.

Thanks for highlighting the unions stance on this Was wondering that from the beginning iro the reluctance of
Tow drivers to act against them.
