You think I haven't?

He's already made up his mind, it doesn't matter what trail of logic someone might try to lay out now, he ain't hearing it. I would (and have before) just stop talking to him but we've known each other and been good friends for a very long time. I felt like I was getting somewhere with him then this happened and now we're right back to square 1. Pft. Square zero now. It's so frustrating.
Yeah I've taken breaks from my buddy before I remember I had to ask him to leave one day when I was hosting a party because he just got argumentative with all my guests over some of his theories. And by argumentative I mean he crossed some lines he shouldn't have.

So I get you. But I know you would regret not being there for him and his mom. So just remember this is about her hold your breath dive in and take frequent sanity breaks as needed.

I've always thought these episodes are like a form of obsessive compulsion with my friend and I noticed he gets really bad when stressed or upset like any other mental quirk it'll come out more when the brain is hyper stimulated.

The worst thing to do is argue him with logic. As you probably know it's like going down a rabbit hole.

I've always found staying grounded with simple things like well right now I can't change that: or Id be pissed right now too but how is getting upset going to help your mom.

Reminding him that she needs you to be strong when she can speak to you and we can't change what the hospital or gov is doing right now. focus your energy on what you can do or what she wants is there things she'll need when she gets home? That stuff is usually a better way in for my friend.

Most importantly remind him your his friend you love him no matter what if he needs to talk or vent or if you can help your here for him.

And then take those sanity breaks!!!! Lol ;)

When someone is a high stress situation, it's hard to move them off a position whether he's right or wrong.
This is horrible to see and god knows what it feels like to go through. I went through something similar in an ER many years ago and was almost arrested for trying to stay with a patient who could not speak English and no one in the ER spoke his language.

She's in for blood clots. If she caught Covid while there and they have her now under Covid protocols, her rights change considerably from what I understand, meaning she loses many of them. Anybody in the medical field(Dan?) here know how true that is or what can be done about it? I'd call a good lawyer asap.

Saying prayers for your friend.

I suspect it's not rights even with Covid protocols she'll still have rights like phone calls. Depending on what her condition is tho she may not be in a position to talk they may be doing tests or procedures stuff like that.

Also the unit may be short staffed right now slammed with acute care and Covid right now and it may be difficult for them to keep up with everything

You also have to factor in maybe she is asking not to take calls.

Also you need to factor in how intrusive has he been is he blowing up there phones? Being belligerent every time he does? If you get like that they will keep in contact but understandably will not be rushing to keep someone notified

There's lots of intangibles we don't know.

But much respect for @Pogre for being there for a difficult friend who is probably being more difficult then usual. Your a good friend bro a true friend having people with your character in my inner circle is something I've always been grateful for.

Those are the kind of people that make this life worth it

I appreciate the thoughts. That goes for everyone replying about it (Zilla, etc) thank you. I don't think anyone has an answer for folks like my buddy. His mom did get all of her shots, we don't know for sure what caused the blood clot(s), she's not exactly fit either, but that's all it takes to tip him over the edge. I'm not even trying to counter argue with him or anything. It's just not the time for that right now. He's freaked out, understandably so. I'm just frustrated and venting more than anything.

But what about Whoopi Goldberg? :)
Funny you should ask. Was just sent a clip by Bill Maher. He's been getting slammed lately by the cancel crowd but he had some interesting things to say about Whoopi and free speech in general..

Maher has a point ironically plenty of talking head conservatives are saying the same thing he is saying Whoopi should not be fired.

Free speech is free speech. I think they are forgetting tho she works for someone. So she is free to say what she wants but her emplyer also has a right to do what they feel is in the best interests of there company.

Same thing applies to Rogan as well. He's free to do what he wants but his employer also has a right to do what is best for them as well.

Should either one of them be cancelled? I don't think so

Free speech should be given equally to left and right. Besides I dislike bullies and just love refusing to bend the knee to the cancel mob anyway.

Pack of empty void hypocritical virtue signaling little piranhas anyway. Preaching about saving the climate while they're typing away trying to destroy peoples lives on a device made in a country that's energy usage will end up killing our climate way faster than anything we do here in the States.

Just one of a long list of hypocritical things they'll cancel the sh$t out of you for. But do these things themselves anyway.

Actually, I wrote that incorrectly- I think you should have him explain HIS position using logic.

They would really prevent her making a phone call ? That's complete BS, if it's true.

That was a completely stupid thing to say and if we really have free speech, she has a right to say it but she needs to realize that saying something like that WILL result in blowback. She has made comments in the past that were offensive, but not to this degree.

She should take a few European History courses- she doesn't seem to know the magnitude of the oppression against Jews.

And now, for a more recent event-

If the free market would work properly, her educated audience would tune her and show out.
I would add ancient Eygpt, Greek, and Roman history courses or just about any Empire in the area to that list. Its a story, 3,500 years in the making. Whoopi has some time off to reflect and maybe catchup on her reading.

Just a quick update on my friend. He's a li'l calmer now and I got him to admit he leapt to about a dozen premature conclusions and assumptions... don't think I'll ever change his mind but he's being more reasonable now.

My ears look like little charred briquettes. As soon as Spotify offers their lossless HiFi service, you can bet I'll use a free trial of it regardless of what Joe Rogan has to say about anything. I didn't swear off of NBC just because that idiot goaded people into eating pig rectums on "Fear Factor."o_O

Author says he doesn't think Rogan is doing this intentionally. Hmmm.... (Microchips and Gene Therapy were left out.)

(excerpt)

Ivermectin as ‘the end of covid’

Biologist Bret Weinstein said on Rogan’s show in June that a study suggested “ivermectin alone, if properly utilized, is capable of driving this pathogen to extinction.” He read from the study suggesting it was 86 percent effective in preventing infections.

Crazy number,” Rogan said
Weinstein added: “That number is high enough to be, independently, the end of covid if we decide to make it so.”

The study at issue, though, was a meta-analysis, reviewing generally smaller, lower-quality trials done on the use of ivermectin on covid patients. One of the main studies it relied upon, from Egypt, was soon withdrawn over major data issues. One watchdog stated that removing the Egyptian study from the meta-analysis effectively “reversed” the conclusions (which the study’s authors disputed).
The study was also conducted by people affiliated with an interest group that advocates for the use of ivermectin, PolitiFact reported, even though the authors claimed there was no conflict of interest. High-quality studies have repeatedly shown ivermectin having little to no benefit.

There is, quite simply, no evidence ivermectin is anything close to the silver bullet Rogan’s viewers were told it was. And belief in these supposed panaceas can give people false hope, leading them to not take other precautions, like vaccines.
(Rogan also shared supposed evidence that ivermectin works as recently as this week, despite the story on which it was based having been corrected. Rogan later deleted the tweet.)

‘Mass-formation hypnosis’
Perhaps the one interview that set off the current imbroglio was Rogan welcoming vaccine scientist Robert Malone last month. Malone bills himself as a key figure in the development of mRNA technology and has since become a prominent skeptic of the coronavirus vaccines. He has often lodged wild, false and unproven claims.

Among the claims he shared with Rogan’s audience: the pseudoscientific idea that a “third of the population [is] basically being hypnotized” to believe the mainstream media and Anthony S. Fauci by something called “mass-formation psychosis.” Malone compared the situation to Nazi Germany.

The concept of mass-formation psychosis is not one broadly recognized by psychologists. Malone has since backed off using the word “psychosis.”

But here Rogan’s influence shows: The idea that people could be persuaded to follow health officials by effectively being hypnotized has gained significant traction.

The McCullough interview
While the Malone interview has gotten much of the attention, one of its recent predecessors shouldn’t be given short shrift. The guest last month was cardiologist Peter McCullough, who also spoke of “mass psychosis."

McCullough claimed the pandemic was “planned” and that early treatments were deliberately suppressed “in order to promote fear, suffering, isolation, hospitalization and death.” These are largely unfalsifiable claims, but they are baseless and wildly conspiratorial.

He claimed a coronavirus vaccine trial in Australia turned people “HIV-positive” and that the evidence for this was suppressed. The tests were actually false positives because of certain protein fragments used, and this is very much in the public record.

He claimed “the virus is not spread asymptomatically.” But in doing so, he cited a 2020 Chinese study that dealt with transmission after a harsh lockdown, not asymptomatic transmission. The other study he apparently cited merely indicated asymptomatic transmission in the study itself was not “substantial,” not that it hadn’t occurred.

The same study acknowledged it had “less data” on asymptomatic transmission, rendering such bold claims of no asymptomatic transmission far beyond the evidence. Data since these studies has made clear asymptomatic people can spread the virus, including in a study released around the time of the interview.

He also claimed “you can’t get [the coronavirus] twice” and that natural immunity was basically “permanent.” He said the government has effectively admitted this. This stems from a misreading of a Freedom of Information Act request. There is myriad evidence of people getting reinfected, and there has been for many months.

Rogan, to his credit, pushed back on this last one, saying he knew people who had multiple infections. But he and McCullough didn’t dwell on it. And the moment passed, with people who had contracted the virus free to believe they might be totally immune going forward.
