Hello I purchased a SB-1000pro to replace my polk audio psw505. From reviews I read I was expecting the SVS to be much louder but it isn't. I don't know if I should use the LFE on the subwoofer or disable it and use my receiver's crossovers like I did with my polk. I have tried both and the bass I'm getting is clear but it is not very loud. The wattage on the SVS is slightly higher than my polk so I was assuming the volume would also be louder.
It is my first day owning it and I definitely do not regret buying it but I wish it was louder.
Any helpful tips would be appreciated, I am also on the fence about upgrading it to a 2000 pro but will the 2000 be louder?
Fairly new to home audio and have learned a lot in the past month but I still have a lot to learn.
So a couple things. I have experience with both the 505 which IS ported, and sb2000. It has a rear facing slot port, and it has a little more output capability, but does roll off steeper like a ported sub will(24db vs 12). In any case, for reasons mentioned, the 505 will always sound louder. Even if it’s because it’s just non linear and high Q. Also, if you are using the LFE in on the subwoofer, you ARE using the receivers XO. Maybe I missed it… Again, the 505 IS ported, and that is the biggest reason why your disappointed. The SB1000 is definitely a nice subwoofer. But it’s no match for a room that size. Not that you’re trying to pressurize the whole space, but sealed subs drop off(roll off) around 35 hz compared to a ported sub which should remain linear down to its port tune. Normally around 20hz. Iir the 505 is tuned around 25hz. Depending on the content, that’s a big advantage, even for a lesser sub.
Imo, you should send it back for a pb1k pro, or a PB/PC2k pro. In either case, you’ll be rewarded with much more output, and much cleaner sound. As far as your neighbors? Well, if your friendly with them. Once you’re dialed in, listen/watch something like normal and have them tell when they can hear it, and when it’s too loud. Then you’ll know where the limit is.
Also, did you bump the trim up a few db after calibration? That would help.
