It's sad where we are. People believe crazy conspiracy and Russian propaganda and then they tell you in the same breath they love the county. We are so fucked. They fall for every bit of misinformation and tell you are a sucker for reading the NY Times or watching NBC or CBS news or CNN. They literally create propaganda networks like OAN and Newsmax and tell you the sources you use for news isn't news. We are in a sad ass state.

I don't know why some members of this forum persistently post links to cess pool links and still think we don't call them out for it just as all the other times. Sometimes they really have legitimate concerns that needs (IMO) to be addressed but then their concerns are drowned in feces of their own making.

So, you are unable to answer the question and this is your response ! You merely tagged my response dumb but are unable to refute it, LOL.

You inserted your dumb trolling arse in after I pointed out that the 20 year war in Afghanistan was not a 'losing' one on all fronts. Your only rebuttal was the mock of a 'Russian link' yet no where are you able to counter it !! ?? Come on, show me where the #'s are wrong , my mind is open to it.

You, like several others here seem to get your panties in a bind when a thread does not follow 'your' narrative way of thinking. So if I posted a link that is 'fake' in it's content then by all means disprove it..........

there should have been a far greater effort made to evacuate those people before the pullout.
Those people should have known better. Didn't they know that place was effed up?

I bet the Taliban is pissed too.

I know someone who was deployed there, twice. Met him after he returned the first time and they sent him back more than a year later- not even family, but it was very stressful, knowing what could happen.

Eisenhower warned about the military-industrial complex and nobody listened because everyone, on all sides of the political aisle, want to rake in the cash via the stock market. Lockheed, Boeing, McDonnel-Douglas, General Dynamics and a few other corporations were the big winners. and all have board members who are former high military officers or political office holders.

'Those people'- you mean, the State Department? They did and the White House did, too. Biden, maybe- not sure he really knows where he is, but he has his moments.

From https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/afghanistan-advisory.html

"On April 27, 2021, the Department ordered the departure from U.S. Embassy Kabul of U.S. government employees whose functions can be performed elsewhere."

From https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/16/politics/biden-afghanistan-speech/index.html

"Biden admits Afghanistan's collapse 'did unfold more quickly than we had anticipated' "

From https://www.state.gov/briefings/department-press-briefing-august-10-2021/

"At the same time – we’ve made this point before, but – the Afghan Government, the Afghan National Security Forces, far outnumber the Taliban – 300,000 – a capable fighting force of 300,000 troops, an air force that has modern weaponry, that has been trained by the United States, that just recently was provided with additional equipment. They have special forces. They have heavy equipment. So they have a capable fighting force."

GO-NAD started it.

. Interpreters, civil servants, lawyers, judges (many of them women) - people we encouraged to take on leadership roles in the development of their country. If we don't help those people, who will ever trust us again? I agree that we had to leave, but there should have been a far greater effort made to evacuate those people before the pullout.

Actually, that has ben stated a few times before over the last 20 years that the country had needed raw materials but may not be that easy to get out. And, I bet, China is chomping at the bits to get ahold of it.

Stepping into a political pissing match (i.e. this thread) is risky business, but it is clearly true that China has been acting very aggressive towards Taiwan lately. Can't we all just get along, and start pissing on China? (Yeah, I know, I obviously do not have a future in stand up comedy)

>>>BEIJING/TAIPEI, Aug 17 (Reuters) - China carried out assault drills near Taiwan on Tuesday, with warships and fighter jets exercising off the southwest and southeast of the island in what the country's armed forces said was a response to "external interference" and "provocations". . . A senior official familiar with Taiwan's security planning told Reuters that China's air force had carried out a "capturing air supremacy" drill, using their advanced J-16 fighters.

"In addition to seeking air supremacy over Taiwan, they have also been conducting frequent electronic reconnaissance and electronic interference operations," the person said.

Taiwan believes China is trying to gather electronic signals from U.S. and Japanese aircraft so that they can "paralyse reinforcing aircraft including F-35s in a war", the source said, referring to the U.S.-operated stealth fighter.<<<

For those who prefer a more left leaning point of view:

>>>Wonder Where World War III Might Break Out? Try Taiwan

The hard problem is how long and at what cost is the U.S. willing to stand between Taiwan and mainland China’s aggression. . . .

A clear and troubling consensus has emerged in the American national security community that the Taiwan Strait is the most likely place for a major war to erupt between the United States and China; that it might start soon, and that such a conflict might quickly escalate into a nuclear confrontation.<<<

For those who prefer a view from the right:

>>>A Chinese Attack on Taiwan Is Getting Closer . . .

U.S. defense planners warn that Beijing is softening the ground for an assault — one that might come in the not-so-distant future.

At two separate Senate hearings last month, the current head of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and the nominee to replace him warned of a growing threat of a Chinese attack. It could come “in the next decade, in fact within the next six years,” said Admiral Phil Davidson. His would-be successor, Admiral John Aquilino, a few weeks later offered a similar assessment: “There are spans from today to 2045. My opinion is this problem is much closer to us than most think.” . . . The modernization drive [of the military in China] has been so successful that in Pentagon war games, the U.S. consistently loses to China in hypothetical conflicts over Taiwan. <<<

A LOT of USA money is tied there (mostly with TSMC), the US nor its allies will allow China to invade Taiwan since they could stand to lose billions. Think national security interests are also heavily dependent on Taiwan.
The U.S. might step in to defend Taiwan, but the official U.S. position is "strategic ambiguity" which is of course ambiguous. Perhaps Biden inadvertently blurted out the truth, but it's hard to say. Which reminds me of the old joke: The definition of a gaffe is when a politician accidentally tells the truth.

>>>WASHINGTON, Aug 19 (Reuters) - A senior Biden administration official said on Thursday that U.S. policy on Taiwan had not changed after President Joe Biden appeared to suggest the United States would defend the island if it were attacked, a deviation from a long-held U.S. position of "strategic ambiguity." . . .
"We have made - kept every commitment. We made a sacred commitment to Article 5 that if in fact anyone were to invade or take action against our NATO allies, we would respond. Same with Japan, same with South Korea, same with - Taiwan. It's not even comparable to talk about that."

A senior Biden administration official said U.S. "policy with regard to Taiwan has not changed" and analysts said it appeared that Biden had misspoken. . . Bonnie Glaser, a Taiwan expert at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, called Biden's apparent mischaracterization "unfortunate." "The U.S. had an Article 5 commitment to Taiwan from 1954 to 1979. The Biden administration isn't considering returning to that commitment, as indicated by public statements by Kurt Campbell." . . .
Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan was asked about Taiwan this week and called it a "fundamentally different question in a different context" to Afghanistan.

"We believe our commitment to Taiwan ... remains as strong as it's ever been," he said, without specifying what the commitment was.<<<

Like Mr Clark said this is a really sticky situation. I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes here but we all have differing opinions. So might not be possible

You can't put it all on Biden. You just can't this started all the way back with Bush 2 as someone stated and it was always going to be a clusterfu$%k no matter who was in charge.

As someone said I'm tired of our men and women occupying foreign countries spilling there blood losing there limbs breaking there minds so we can naively think we can police or impose our values on the rest of the world 20 years of there lives lost not to mention civilians suffering over there and it accomplished what exactly?

Whenever possible can we pull them out of there and just leave the world to do what it needs to do whenever humanely possible?

That doesn't mean Biden didn't f some things up. He did but I challenge any president to come out smelling like a rose in such a complicated situation.

I'm tired of this black or white Trump or Biden kindoff arguing. These situations are too complex to say anyone side is all in the right or all in the wrong

I'd rather look at it and say what did we do wrong and what consequences are going to come from it and what do we need to do as a nation to fix and face these consequences

This back and forth political squabbling is going to be our doom. Russia China and the Middle East aren't going to take a time out while we figure out who is right or wrong.

We have it pretty soft over here in some ways people over there are hard tough and ruthless because they have to be. They would run right over us and not even think twice about it if we give them an opportunity to do so.
