Seriously, I have no life.
Would have been nice had the Reagan administration seen the AIDS epidemic as an emergency. It was a sure and painful death for anyone who came into contact with HIV back then. Still no vaccine in sight .
You seem to be a nut job trouble maker to me spouting nonsense on topics you know nothing about. In other words you are troublesome ignoramus.

First there are HIV vaccines finally in sight. The problem with retroviruses is that their modus operandi is to evade the immune system and actually destroy it. That makes it an exceptionally difficult target for a vaccine. However after lots of hard work over many years some promising candidates are under evaluation by the NIH.

Sars 2 Covid-19 fortunately is a much easier and more promising target. It has an S-Spike antigen that if attacked by the immune system seems to render it harmless. Although it is not yet known is if it completely stops asymptomatic spread.

However the news from Pfizer today is very good news indeed. Pfizer by the way, have taken no public money.

Also it means that since the other vaccines that target the S-spike antigen currently under development will also be effective most likely

I was on AMA zoom conference with Dr Fauci on Saturday. There are a number of NIH studies of long term follow up of Covid-19 survivors. The most disturbing is data showing 60% of survivors show evidence of myocarditis months out after recovery. This is similar to German data. So the worry is that although the elderly have higher mortality, the young may have a high late mortality. The sooner this pandemic is brought to an end the better.

Scientists around the world are giving this all the have got. Medical personal around the world are becoming exhausted. More staff seem to be getting seriously ill in this second wave than the first for reasons that are not clear. So I for one am not going to tolerate your rude, out of line and ignorant comments.

Now we have another worry. Denmark has an outbreak of a new strain of Covid-19 that has spread to at least 12 humans. Unfortunately this strain does show significant antigenic drift in the S-spike antigen. So this might require the development of another vaccine is this gets out of the bag. Denmark is getting walled off and they are gassing all their mink farms. They are searching to see if this strain has got into the wild.

The UK is not allowing any trucks or goods from Denmark and any UK citizen returning from Denmark has to be escorted into extreme isolation by teams wearing full hazmat gear. Unlike China, Denmark notifies the WHO and the world medical community immediately of this serious development.

Believe it or not, the nut job deniers are calling this draconian, as they can't get their ham and bacon! You just can't make this stuff up.

TSL Guy - I'm sure plenty throughout this thread have thanked you (and other informative individuals) for your fact-based, thoughtful contributions regarding this pandemic. I highly value the work that you and others are doing, as well as the information you continue to provide. Please don't let people bringing ignorance to the table get in the way of your contrubutions.

Many thanks!

Record numbers of hospitalizations in the last few days. Will record deaths be far behind? I sincerely hope not. :(

UK can’t get bacon? They don’t need it. Somebody really should send them some good dentists, though. Guess who got extra shipments of bacon? Can I interest anyone in a Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger? Seriously, consume yourselves over the coronavirus and ignore heart disease and diabetes and you are going to have far more problems later than the COVID-19. I’ve never denied the existence of the virus. But, when you can knock over a fat and sick populace with a feather, ANY virus is a very bad thing. If your goal is to make money off of the sick and the stupid while at the same time isolating everybody so nobody can do anything about it then the coronavirus is your golden goose. I do not envy good-hearted and hard working physicians at this time who have to deal with, not only this virus, but a whole lot of bulls#%t as well.

Unfortunately it will mean more deaths. Under optimal conditions the case fatality is now 2.7% down from 5%. However that means adequate ICU capacity and enough staff the keep beds open. Hospital staff are now out sick in alarming numbers with Covid-19. Once out of hospital capacity especially ICU capacity then the mortality approaches 20%. We only had 6 ICU beds open in the Twin Cities metro for a period last week. Even the Mayo Clinic had to cut back on urgent cancer and heart surgery last week. So we will now see more than just direct Covid-19 deaths, but they will show up in the excess deaths. We are paying a terrible price for this Trump clown.

This loony is his spiritual adviser in the White House. This is even way beyond Monty Python.

and when Biden opens the borders a flood of sick people and criminals will pour in an tens of thousands of Americans will die unnecessarily.
Tens of thousands of Americans are already dying unnecessarily. And since the ratio of infected Americans far exceeds our neighboring countries, if the borders were open, it would be us who would be flooding them with sick people and criminals.

Oooo, we're getting philosophical now! If you believe there is no free will, you're in agreement with quite a few scientists.

The thing is, if there is no free will, how can we rightly hold anyone accountable for their actions?
Okay, the we-live-in-a-simulated-universe "science" now comes in #2 on the bullshit scale for today compared to this article. So for the thousands of times in our lives where we are confused or torn about which decision to make in a complicated situation, this article says that the selected answer can be determined with 100% accuracy in advance. Such malarky.

I'm not saying I endorse it unreservedly. Many scientists have little patience for the concept of free will because for many of them, it is the preserve of religion. There is no question that the universe must abide by the laws of physics which is more than levers & fulcrums and the coefficient of friction. It forms the guardrails between which chemicals, including hormones, are able to act/react/interact, governing our behaviour to a significant degree. It's when we get beyond the realm of physics and enter the world of metaphysics that I think free will comes into play.

Because people can't agree on what we should and shouldn't do!
Well, we had already gone over "Don't mess with me", Don't mess with others in a way that harms them" and IIRC, "Don't be a d%ck to the extent that most people call you a d&ck".

I didn't say we don't have free will, I mean it's stupid to give it to humans. The ones who believe that we don't just say "Everything happens for a reason" and "It's God's will".

Fine way to justify bad actions.
