Noise in Emotiva power amp

If that is true, then they are breaking the law. Law requires support and service for a minimum of seven years after purchase of a new product.

From what you say, I think unless the OP can get redress form the seller, this will be a total loss for him. If this was a Craigslist purchase for instance I think he is out of luck. Recycling may prove to be his best option depending on the circumstances of the purchase.

I hear Emotiva are a really lousy outfit, and to be vigorously avoided.
I purchased an Emotiva Bass-X 300 two channel amp and it has performed flawlessly. I had one of those Outlaw 2200's that everyone seems to praise around and it was garbage. Too much hate for Emo around here.

FWIW, I've actually heard more generally positive information about the Bass-X gear. At the time I was shopping I was considering their XPA stuff, including the DR-3 for my Front 3...
Their Tech folk couldn't/wouldn't answer some basic questions about performance of the Stereo Modules they use. (The "mono-blade" modules have quite a bit of information available on their site.) I talked to them on three different occasions and never felt like they were interested in educating me about their product, much less wanted my business. Add to that the history with unfulfilled promises in their Pre-Pro line-up...
This is why I am not an EMO customer.
All of this happened without my knowledge of the situation Gene had with Emo.

Conversely, my experience with Outlaw has been superb. My collection of 5 2200s and 2 X-13s continue to perform well. When I reached out to them for information, they were very friendly and helpful in answering my questions.

Clearly, it seems we have had different experiences. There's nothing wrong with that, but in a tight market, it's the little things that matter. :)

Don’t believe everything you hear. You might also hear Santa Claus is coming to town

Not much to like if they refuse to service their own products.

Garbage, huh? In what way?

A large number of electronics hobbyists can and do service a wide range of equipment and some of it is very finicky. Some of these people worked in military electronics, some were AV service techs, some just dabble but are well-versed in audio circuitry.

Someone will probably buy it, but I would start by moving the amplifier to another location to find out if the noise is being introduced by something near it. If an audio cable is connected only at the amplifier, it can act like an antenna for interference but I would also connect it to the other equipment using a different cable, in case the one used now is faulty (bad solder joint, bad shielding, etc).

That is interesting! You are 100% correct, and I had even forgotten about this.

I think an Emo owner running into this problem should absolutely pull this fact from their bag of tricks!

Yeah, mine was. It had a terrible hum and the auto signal detection stop working. I contact Outlaw CS to complain and the rep got arrogant and took it personal when I told him my amp had a bad hum.

Did they fix it for you?

I can't imagine anyone taking something you would say personally, gosh. You're always so upbeat, complimentary of others and not arrogant at all...

No, they didn't fix it. I returned and vowed never to purchase an Outlaw amp again. Anyway, if others are having great experiences with Outlaw amps, that's fine, I'm just sharing my experience with them.

Hi, I recently bought a second hand Emotiva A5175 power amplifier. I have LRC and zone 2 speakers plugged in it. It sounds great but it creates a buzz in the speakers. When no rca input is plugged in, the buzz is very loud. When there is an input plugged in, it is way better but there is still an audible buzz when volume is low or muted. If I plug the same speaker wire directly into the receiver (onkyo rz730) , speakers are 100% silent on mute. Do I have a problem with the amp? Is there a way to fix this? It's my first power amp so I'm not sure what to expect.
Thanks for helping.
Before you junk it try some troubleshooting.
Unplug everything from the amp including the speakers, then add one speaker. May want to just move that speaker around to the other speaker out one after the other. Then add other speakers one at a time with no input to amp. You may want to get some shorting RCA plugs in all input?

Change interconnects when you add the inputs.
You may also want to call the company for suggestions to check out.

Or, just give up and try to get you $$$ back.

I have an Outlaw 7500 that I wasn't the original buyer. Since bought it, the amp had what I thought was a ground loop. One of the channels eventually blew. However, after that channel went out, all the rest were dead silent (worked great, no ground floor, noise). Good news is I'm only using it for my front 3 so I'm just using it (4 good channels) vs. get it fixed at this point. But point is I think that one channel was going bad already when I got it and was driving the noise (although the noise was in all channels). Is this an ATI/Outlaw fault? Or it's likely it just happens with time. But I'm not sure it's just Outlaw, probably can/will happen with all AMPS eventually

Hi, just an update on my case. I brought the amp to a specialist in my neighbourhood. He spent 4 hours working on it, cost me 160$ (CAD). He says there was a design problem that was messing up the ground. He rerouted a few grounds and added a few resistances (his words). It cancelled 95% of the hum. He says it should be ok now and no more danger to my speakers. It would have gotten worse without a fix. He sees that kind of problems a lot with many brands. Let's hope it holds up. Thanks to everyone who helped without making it a contest of my amp is better than yours.
Case closed for now.

So Emotiva WILL repair their products AFTER the warranty period expires?
Of course, they will.

I don't know how this stupid rumor gets passed around here everywhere, but I talked to Emotiva about it.

They will not fix products for FREE after the warranty expires. They will fix them for labor and parts fees. The only exception to this is if the parts are discontinued and somehow unavailable to be sourced.

Again, that is not their "refusal", but an issue if one of their suppliers quit manufacturing a certain part.

Would you mind responding and refreshing our memories here......what exactly was your difficulty with Emotiva? What were the details on their "inability to service your amp"?
