Nature on KERA. A man studies a pet octopus in his home. Should be an interesting show on a highly intelligent cephalopod. Also episode 3 of American Horror Story on FX. Pretty entertaining season so far.

I was excited to find the first 3 Indian Jones movies and a bonus disc from a local movie store that was brand new in the original packaging THX Digitally Mastered!

It did not disappoint for sound and picture quality either!

I grew up with VCR and Standard Def 480i Tv so when DVD came out and was paired with a progressive scan component video player it was a big leap for me.

I originally started with my Epson projector in 2005 at 720p resolution through my Pioneer Elite 59av-i with HDMI. I had it blast on my living room wall. In 2007 I met my wife and put the projector in its box for 11 years.

Technology has leaped way ahead over those years but for me I never had a screen until last year when I set it all back up. I had to replace the bulb which had 2930 hrs use on it and it’s funny because 11 years prior the bulb was 500.00 and in 2018 it was 120.00

Bluray looks awesome through my projector as well yet I found I can use DVD and be fully immersed “without” feeling the added Bluray quality is mandatory.

Some Bluray’s are worth it for me but usually when I know the DVD had poor quality. I know many will laugh at that statement with Bluray always is better but like I started with I grew up with much poorer resolution and can be fully satisfied either way in most cases but Aquaman has to be high Def

Yep, still watch dvds too and they can be very good. Was curious is all. I think my Indiana Jones discs are dvd, too.

I love how all the Director’s cuts and Special Extended Editions are so easily available on DVD now and many that originally had Dolby surround also have DD & DTS 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1

I blast myself with 5.1 Don’t have the room for anything more right now but plan on building a home with a larger HT and will finish with 7.2.2 ultimately

I blast myself with 5.1 Don’t have the room for anything more right now but plan on building a home with a larger HT and will finish with 7.2.2 ultimately

Still, the difference for the audio with the AC3 sountrack vs the full on lossless Dolby I thought significant in Blade Runner 2049, altho more often I just consider the differences fairly minor. I use 7.4 and 5.2 setups for most of my movie watching.

Once the volume is hitting say -10 average it pretty loud and anything louder in my setup is a freaky during peaks!

Nah, these days rarely even hit -10, usually -20 but for some of the quieter soundtracks....

Nice to have the power when needed. Honestly that’s why I love a bit of overkill for a room so even at lower volume everything sounds solid and clear. I’m a sound guy first over picture as you can tell but I have my quality minimum as well!

Was watching a movie called The Day After based on the Cold War and the quality on DVD is awful but the story is decent. Basic Instinct DVD full screen was brutal but on widescreen it was excellent on 100” screen. Mind you Sharon Stone looked Fabulous in that movieand without her the movie would have flopped even in my book!

FWIW, I would recommend your future theater be 5.x.4 instead of 7.x.2. It is definitely more immersive. I have 7.3.4 and have used it in a few iterations over the years. The rear surrounds, while definitely nice, are pretty underrated and Ime if you have to choose, choose 5.x.4. If you don’t have to choose then I wholeheartedly recommend 7.x.4.

Douglas was calm and cool in that! I love how Sharon’s character rubs off on him and he starts talking to his police buddies like she does. Sharon never really out did that role after and she is practically the same sort of sex symbol in The Specialist with Stallone. I guess the saying goes “use what youf mamma gave you” and that she did in her youth!

If money were no concern I might look at the newer paradigm refs. And definitely upgrade past the sub15’s. HSU, Rythmik, SVS, JTR, seaton etc. the new stuff from PSA looks especially interesting as well as the dual 15 from monolith.

It took me 14 years to finally get my sub. Originally I wanted the servo 15 in its hay day but didn’t have the coin, met the wife and had no room for a 15 and actually had all my surround gear put away with my projector until 2018.

Sad to put stuff that is bad ass for its day away for over a decade and set it all up finally when the industry has evolved so much and is also so much cheaper to get good stuff that was ridiculously priced.

The great news is at least my ears and eyes haven’t evolved yet so my gear sounds and looks awesome and better now that everything is in a dedicated room, bass managed and positioned correctly

Really I’m a die hard. Even new video formats sound amazing through my gear and help even my projector look beyond what was possible before it hit the storage!

Well built stuff lasts and I don’t have anyone close to me that understands or appreciates this passionate hobbie we here at audioholics do so I’m really only impressing myself anymore but my dad at 62 appreciates my HT it’s not something he plans to introduce into his living room however.

The only other real fan is my 5 year old and my 17 year old that isn’t allowed touching my stuff because he wants to touch the gains and blast rap with no concept of what clipping can do to a sub or speakers.
