Audyssey killing my HT sound?

I have the dips (midrange compensation) disabled. I tried it at 300hz. I know the graphs aren’t super accurate but there is a story there of what is happening. With it on in theory the peaks and valleys of the room correction should be leveled to a more flat response. I noticed that some of the valleys prior to calibration was below flat. I also changed curve adding 2db at 200. 3db at 4000. 1.5 dB at 10,000 and 1db at 20,000. Cut the filter range off at 2200hz just before my speakers natural dip built into the crossover. Very pleased with what I got. The mid range compensation in audessy doesn’t make sense because each speakers frequency transition from woofer to tweeter is different so how can audessy say this is where it needs to be.

Dude let me tell you my system sounds so good now! Very happy, very happy. Audyssey off and happy again.
Now please tell me because I'm a big dummy. Why when Audyssey was on and I had that dynamic volume on my volume was like -40 and now it's -15 are about the same loud? Meaning why do I have to turn the amp up higher than I did before when now I'm getting full range or no roll off? Be gentle with me, as I said I'm a big dummy.

Dynamix EQ is the only one I would use. Dynamic Volume is their version of DRC which (IMHO) should never be enabled. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but I didn't like the results I got with Dynamic Volume enabled.

If you use the App a while back, be sure to get the latest update that has removed the below 20 Hz roll off. After that you need to upload the target curve again in order to enjoy or at least feel the deep bass if your sub(s) can go much lower than 20 Hz. I am surprise you prefer the flat curve, apparently most people don't.
I downloaded it yesterday so it had all the updates. My graph shows that bass is fine down to 10hz or so. I just need to play around with it when I have time to flatten out the bass response. If the Audyssey app can't do that they I guess a miniDSP is in my future.

Try limiting to below 500 to 750hz (or so) with the audyssey app and if you still dont like it, turn audyssey off. Many prefer it off and after extensive testing over time with two different audyssey versions i always end up with it disabled.

How do you turn it off?
I have A Marantz SR6013 - I am having the SAME issue as original poster.

It was great hearing my SVS Primes and PS12 SVS Sub until I ran Aud XT32

Setup -> Audio -> Audyssey -> turn everything off, or play around with them.

Am I able to turn it back on if I wanted to without running the entire setup again?

Yes and you can save the Audyssey settings in your computer as well (altho it does take some time to reload, you wouldn't need to do it over with the mic, and you could save more than one as well).

Well, the op ran Audyssey setup again with more careful mic placements and made some settings adjustments and he's blown away at how good it sounds now.
Yes I did and yes I am. Blown away and surprised. I say try it again and be very careful with mic placement. I really screwed my first 2 tries up. The first one I messed up a few mics. The second I rushed through it like I used to with YPAO but that system is more forgiving. Audyssey you can't do that, at least that's what I found out. All is great now.

Can you detail you exact steps including mic placement??

I read the mic should not travel more than within a 4x4 foot area?

Thanks

I follow the pattern shown on screen fairly tight around my mlp and use all 8 measurement positions with the mic at ear level.

Well I have a very less than ideal sitting arrangement. My couch is right smack against the back wall. I put the first one in my regular listening position. The two to the left and right I only moved over 10 inches maybe even less so be honest. The one that goes in the front of the listening position I actually put directly where my listening position is like the first test. The two in the back I put directly on the back of the couch. The back couch is fairly high but it worked out great.
I'm listening now and forgive my language but I'm shitting my pants. Watching the "The Divergent series: Allegiant" and holy cow! This sounds like a completely different HT than just 2 days ago where I was ready to throw the entire system in the garbage. My little PB1000 just shook this entire room! That was freaking cool. Bad for neighbors but good for me.

Your getting me excited.

I've been seriously frustrated with my sound now for weeks.

I will try your method of tighter to center mic placement and the center speaker pulled closer to listening area as suggested by good peeps here

Thanks!!

BTW did you tweak any levels after audyssy was done?

Sharing experiences like this is part of why this forum can be so helpful.

You were pretty angry and disappointed, but slowing down and using a little more precision netted some fantastic results for you. Great job!

Yes, the crossovers in all these room correction systems seem to do wierd things with the crossover. I changed them to 80Hz. That's the safe bet. I had to change my Def Tech SM 65s that I have got LCR to small. Again YPAO did the same thing. They are very large bookshelf speakers so I guess it throws them off. Easy fix.
Oh I tried flat and reference in DEQ and reference is by far the better one, it's not even a close contest.
I'm simply blown away and amazed at what I am hearing now. Now I know the hype around Audyssey and why they say it's much better than YPAO. It's so crisp, so clear, so powerful now and I don't get it. How could mic placement make this much difference? Moral of the story is you have to be careful with Audyssey if you mess it up it could really screw things up. But if you get it just right you get a great reward. That is coming from a dummy too. I somehow got it right. I did get good advice here though too. Thank you too everyone. I'd suggest getting a real tripod though. That cardboard thing SUCKS!

Try using it for a much heavier Umik microphone...

I need to order a stand soon. I've been itching to experiment lately and things are cooling down soon. My cardboard one is beat to poop now, lol.

15 bucks on Amazon, 50 inch tripod. We are going to Walmart tomorrow so I want to see if I can find one there first. If not I will order the one from Amazon.

Got a link handy? If not I'm sure I can find it.
