Klipsch RP8000f's vs JBL studio 590's

Up until the wee hours, I've done that many times. Them JBL's look are big! I didn't realize they where that big I bet they have a really good sound stage?

It's cheaper than collecting cars, and I know some people with that affliction. I have a pair of JBL Northridge E20s in the original factory box you can have for the cost of shipping, if you want to further feed your habit.

Yeah, I thought about using cars instead of cigarettes as a financial angle. The most expensive car I ever bought for myself was $15,500 (after rebates, etc). Compare that to the $40,000 most of my peers spend and that more than covers my 10 year (to date) "speaker habit" in just one car purchase.
I take a weird angle on cars, but my current one is a Chevy Sonic turbo hatchback. I applied $3500 cashback from a GM card combined with the regular rebate type stuff along with a $2000 trade-in and it was $13000. It was a gamble, but I added a $350 "tune" that reprograms the engine computer (whatever it is called) and both torque and HP are boosted well over stock. (It is essentially the same engine as the Cruze) It was a gamble because of reliability concerns and I admit I was comfortable making that gamble because I could afford to replace the motor if it died. Now I am at 150k miles and it runs as smooth and strong as ever. I like the idea of a sleeper car and this fits the bill! It's fun, because every now and again, I see some kid with a Mazda or Subaru that is a little sporty and they know by all rights they will smoke a Sonic, but not mine! (Don't misinterpret this, I know cars like the stock Subaru wrt(?) can probably beat mine handily, but just your normal stock quick car, I can drop)! Also, I think I drop several because it takes them a while to realize I am (like a merge situation) actually pulling away as quickly as I am (before the tune, the car was pretty lame). If they were expecting it, they would give me more of a run. With good tires it actually handles fairly well not to be a sports car.

Actually collecting cars is way beyond my pay-grade unless i did like a friend... buy used and fix them up for a profit, only keeping the " 1 out of 10" that I really coveted!

The soundstage is amazing at least in my room they put up the biggest soundstage I've ever heard at least so far from any speaker I've heard so far.

I don't know how they do it to be honest it's a 60 by 60 horn the Klipsch is 90 by 90 I thought the Klipsch would throw a bigger stage cover more area but may be I have it backwards

It's not quite that simple as horn width angle. The geometry is crucial here too, so the shape of the horn will also dictate its dispersion pattern.

Might it also be horn material to an extent as well as shape? JBL is pretty big on their glass-filled ABS bi-radial horn thing....

Supposedly the material can have an adverse effect here. Note that Klipschs newer horns have a softer rubber material near the throat for better damping. Many horn-loaded speakers go for a very solid horn section that will have no ringing or resonances. I don't know what JBL does to address that in their bi-radial horns.

Awesome review, thanks! I'm also a fellow owner of these awesome speakers. I am a Cerwin Vega guy for 30 years. I took a 5 year break from Audio and Home Theater due to a divorce then got back into it with purchasing Cerwin Vegas SL-Series line. Had the SL-8's with the SL-45C and two SL-10 subs. Great little system. I enjoyed them. But i wanted a bigger sound, horn loaded going up in quality. Cerwin Vega has the XLS line and i did own the original CLS 215. But after searching, the JBL Studio 590 just took over.

I didn't want to leave Cerwin Vega but they don't have anything right now. Who knows what direction they will be taking. Their car audio and pro audio division is doing well but the home speaker division is bleak at best. So i did it, ordered the 590's with the center channel 520C.

6 feet apart, slightly toed in with the rake angle slightly positioned up using a 1/4 inch chrome washer between the speaker and it's front rubber feet. Sitting 8 feet away. Two Yamaha P3500S's powering both main and center channel with the Outlaw 976 pre-pro and a Sony UBP X800 Blu-ray player.

They are absolutely beautiful and sound is unbelievable! Over 30 years of being an Audio Enthusiast, i have found my holy grail. From Steely Dan to AC/DC they are amazing.

I use Outlaws built in Parametric EQ to tame frequencies where it's most sensitive in my room and that's between 2k-6k, bringing them down about 4db. The imaging is ridiculous. Vocals dead center. Im good until they break which i hope never.

I didn't abandon Cerwin Vega entirely. I now have two CVE-18S pro audio 18inch subs and they are bad ass sealed units. I drive those with a DBX120A Subharmonic Synthesizer.

So you use a subharmonic synthesizer for playback of commercially recorded music?
I've never heard of anyone doing that!
Is it because you are going for a "club" type sound?
Please say more about what this gets you and why you like it!
Generally, pro-audio subwoofers do not dig as deep as home audio subs because pro subs are tuned more for producing high SPL than low frequencies!

Yeah I'm completely happy with these beautiful beasts! I was soooo impressed with there 2 channel performance. I found myself skipping the surround modes and just jamming out in 2 channel a lot!

Hey howd you like those D9's? I had a pair of the MX 250's they were what got me started in this crazy hobby 2 this day I have the best memories of those speakers! Your ears are a poor memory but I still think Id love them today. They were the shizzzit at least for me they were back in the day! I still regret selling those speakers!

Although they usually have a fair amount of chuffing, they can dig deeper than many of today's top models, and almost nothing from the 50's came close. You can easily feel them shake the earth from over a hundred feet away. Truly beasts!

Iirc, I got those in ‘89 or ‘90. Don’t even know where to start... Had a kenwood rack system with a pair of kenwood towers. Our house got robbed and it all got stolen. Went shopping for a new AVR, and speakers. We were in BB, and the sales guy is almost begging me to buy a Bose lifestyle 5.1 system. The CV’s were pretty close in price iirc, and I was like, uummm, NO. Not gonna happen. They were with me through graduation and well beyond, and almost became legends on their own! Those speakers are very sensitive and powerful, and were the backdrop for many many parties in my youth.

That’s funny, I used to have fun with “bass cd’s” in the early 90’s with those CV’s and you could stand outside my bedroom and feel bass in the ground. High sensitivity and 15’s boom!!!
They were great rock speakers too. Man I had fun with them.

The CV subs and powered speakers are fairly new in their pro audio three series speaker line up. Strangely enough, their entry level series that i have, the CVE plays lower of the three. Down to 26hz but with a steep roll off below 28hz. However, the subharmonic synth at minimum will reproduce a full octave lower as long as it's in the program material. In which all action movies and some music are. In fact, there are movie theaters known to have these devices in their signal path. The DB120A has allot of adjustments to customize the right amount of subharmonics. During an action movie for example, you can dial in just enough subharmonics to fill your room with deep full bass that not only surrounds you but bass that you can feel at a fairly comfortable volume.

Bass that digs deep in the let's say between 16-25 hz requires allot of power to feel and fill the room. In other words, you need the master volume turned up pretty high to reach those levels at those specific frequencies and that's depending if your room can actually dig that deep. With the DBX, you can add the subharmonics that's normally in movies and music to achieve the same goal at a much lower volume level and come away very happy.

Reading all these forums, many guys get obsessed with $2,500 dollar SVS 16hz bass when most material that we listen to or watch carries bass no lower than 25hz. I payed $1,200 bucks for the two CV's and get 25hz with subharmonics. It's better in my opinion.

Yeah those MX were crazy powerful and super efficient. It was a shock when I sold them and realized how much higher the volume knob had to turn to get my newer speakers to sound that good at the levels the MX could do it at much lower
