County votes are counted toward the state's total and he won far more counties than she did. He won more states, too but again, if Chicago, LA, NYC, DC, St Louis and Milwaukee are going to determine the results, I'll have to think seriously about leaving.
And where exactly would you go? I don't know other systems but I don't think France or the Brittain allows the winner of an election to be the one with less votes.
And by your logic I guess I should want to leave because it's Montana with a population of 12 dictating to me who should be the president. I mean this all insane. How dare the winner of an election be the one with more votes.

Don't pick and choose what to respond to- look at the election map of counties and states won and where are you getting a difference of 3 million? That was only the preliminary count.
Dude in I think Wisconsin the republicans got 47 percent of the vote but received something like 60 percent of the seats because of gerrymandering. I really am asking, is that right? Is that the will of the people?

Wisconsin is a good example of how a simple majority can cause problems- Milwaukee and Madison are the two largest cities and because the population of MKE is mostly low income, the voters are mainly Democrat. Madison is where the largest state university is located, along with state government- they also vote Democrat, by a large margin. The saying 'Madison- 47 square miles, surrounded by reality' was coined a long time ago and it's still true. The Mayor of Madison who was voted out on Tuesday had been called 'Mayor for life' because he was in that office for 45 years. Milwaukee is the last city to have a Socialist Mayor and hasn't had a Republican in that office for over 100 years- this place is circling the drain, IMO. The rest of the state has a few Democrat outposts but overall, the parties are equally supported. I live in the MKE area and that's actually not a great thing- the criminals who live in MKE like to come here to take what they want but that's only natural- you can't steal much from poor people but not all of the surrounding areas are affluent, either. Doesn't stop them from being a pain in our asses, though. Our taxes are higher than most states, our cost of living is higher and regardless of which party, state government will always under-serve someone.

MKE had a Democrat Mayor from 1960-1988 whose goal was to keep minorities in certain parts of the city and that policy has resulted in this being called 'The Most Segregated City In America' for a long, long time. One of the Milwaukee Bucks basketball players recently said he has never seen a more segregated city in his life and there's no way someone should be able to deny it with a straight face.

There's no point in discussing this further- we should agree to disagree, since we aren't going to change our minds.

Wouldn't it be great if the Federal government wasn't bloated and cumbersome, having become the single largest employer in the US?

It will become a place where the poor will get more, do less for it and this will come at the expense of everyone above a certain income, but it won't only be the wealthy who pay. The programs that are being proposed could never be paid for by low income people and I don't know of anyone who wants to be forced to pay for what they didn't cause and can't afford to pay for.

Dude, there are only five votes that needs to be counted: Mine, mine, mine, mine, and since I'm charitable tonight, yours as well. Anyone asking why is clearly of not sound mind and should not have their vote counted.

Pretty good run down by a liberal source to help clear the uranium one fiasco.

Guys, lets just be honest this country is being led off a cliff by both parties, maybe one party will lead us alittle slower than the other, but in the end the result will be the same until we as Americans can find common ground and become united to some degree.
Can I operate the parachute tent at the edge? I won't charge much, I promise!

I'm just a Western European SOB looking at USA on how to run elections. Snide remarks aside, we really are looking, getting worried and see the same play script in East Europe.

I have a friend who came here from Ukraine in the late-70s and he doesn't like what's happening, but he also listens to news from Europe, Russia, Ukraine and other places, so I get some info and perspectives from him since I don't speak Eastern European languages.

It's important to look at the whole time line of what happened, who did it and what they did as a response to receiving certain information. Obama, himself, said that hacking our elections would be difficult, if not impossible, because the process is so decentralized. OTOH, they still haven't standardized the ballots- leaving that up to each state. If they ever reach the point of connecting all ballot readers to the internet at the beginning and transmitting the results at pre-determined times, it will be necessary to slap some people around for being idiots.

Uninformed, misinformed, stupid and illegal voters all carry the same weight as those of people who know what's going on when they cast their ballots- locally (Milwaukee), the school system is doing a terrible job of making sure the kids can think and understand what's happening, For that matter, they can't count change at a fast food place. If you were to come here, I think you would see the reasons for my comments.

So, start a new rant thread or continue now that Barr has shown that he is a true Republican? @KEW

I'd say keep this one going. Cuz I think it's still going to be referred to as the Mueller report wherever it goes from here!

Elect a clown, expect a circus. This what the country voted for although I can't really say that because the loser got 3 million more votes. Only in this country does the winner get less votes and the loser gets more. No where else in the entire world would anyone put up with that.

I've been too busy to stop by lately, but I have a few minutes now.

Actually, there's nothing unique about getting fewer votes, but still winning elections, especially in countries that have - for all intents and purposes - more than two parties in the running. In Canada, with three major parties and a handful of minor ones, governments are often elected with a popular vote in the mid-30% range.

If you equate the electoral college with seats in the House of Commons, all a party needs to do in order to form a majority* government, is to scrape by with a simple majority of the votes cast in at least 50% of the available ridings (seats). Meanwhile, if the opposition parties gain ALL of the votes in less than half the ridings, they're SOL. That's comes from a first-past-the-post system.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-past-the-post_voting

*A party can form a minority government with less than half the seats if they hold more seats than any other individual party. The opposition parties can combine their parliamentary votes on a bill to defeat a governing party - generally if it's a money bill, such as the annual federal budget, which is called a vote of non-confidence.

There have been many debates here over the last few years about changing to some form of proportional representation system, but it never seems to go anywhere. Why? Because it's a Catch-22 situation. While in opposition, parties clamour for change, but can do nothing about it. When in government, there is no incentive for the governing party to change it.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands - perhaps millions - of people have (effectively) no voice representing their views in parliament, because there votes are thinly spread across hundreds of ridings, but not enough within an individual riding to send a candidate to parliament.

Hey, democracy is messy, but I'll take it over any other system. Sad to say, we rarely vote governments in, we generally vote them out.

10 points of obstruction of Justice and no they aren't going to do anything about it. Boy if the black guy with a funny name had 1 he'd be up for impeachment. I guess it's good to be orange and blazingly corrupt.

Disclaimer: I didn’t read the 10 previous pages.

The mueller report will literally change nothing. Partisans will not be swayed by the report and never would have. It didn’t matter what it said... most partisans had made up their minds a long time ago.
