I'd agree that, but I had the same Klipsch 5.1 and when I upgraded ULS MK2 I was blow away by that subwoofer for both movies and music. That little sub packs some deep bass punch that 100% justifies the price tag. I would't overlook this sub. Don't crucify me for say this, but from my personal experience I would say that just because your speakers are ported it does NOT mean you have to have a ported sub. I had a great experience with my ported BMS/ RP-280s and my sealed uls mk 2.

@RUreceivingMYtransmission spend as much as you can afford on good quality bass. It will pay off in the long run. Trust. I think HSU is your best bet for a quality value sub.

Also to the OP, some say this doesn't matter but after owning both front and down firing subs, I would pick front firing any day in a small room. I think you feel the bass more. It's hard to explain but there something about near field bass that is awesome. There another member here @Danzilla31, has a PB-4000 right behind his seat .

I have a similar shaped room and I can tell you if you place both subs next to the TV a lot of the bass will get throw over to the kitchen area, which creates a whole other problem. Even, if you get two subs, I think you'll find that the bass is heavier on the left side of the room than the right side. Beware, if the bass does not sound good out of the box your gonna have to spend some time and really fiddle with sub placement. I actually had to re-arrange my entire room based around my new subs.

You are right about that near field experience there's nothing quiet like it my friend!

Ooooooo, that 4000 is a thing of dreams, but for now I have to fit the budget. I'll def be doing a base crawl when I get them, look forward to playing w the miniDSP in the future. It's funny, the sub I have next to the TV def throws bass into the kitchen, I keep having to space my bar/wine glasses out so that they don't vibrate and make noise.

Hey rumy are those atmos modules on top of the 8000’s? Are they active? Looks like they might give better performance if the backs were propped up a little, aiming them more toward the couch. Seems like the sound would land on your feet when stretched out chillin. Just an observation...

You are 100% correct. Just got them, that's the only reason they're on top of the floors. My plan is to mount them on the wall

So, I'm on a business trip to Harrahs in NC, and just made $300 at the Casino. It's not much, but guess what?.. Its all going toward the sub fund!.. Now its official, I'm either purchasing (tomorrow) the VTF-3's, or the ULS 15's (going duel on both). Just want to get final thoughts, based on my acoustically bad room. What do you think?

How large is the actual open area of your space, including the kitchen? (I know you gave dimensions before,but I just want to clarify what kind of volume your subs will actually be seeing, please.)

Of course! My livingroom is 28x12 and then it "L's" into the kitchen, which also extends into a game room, probably 45x15 (kitchen and gameroom combined, it's like a bowling alley). Also, as you can see in the pics, the other side opens up towards my front door.

Ok, thanks for that. You don't need to try to pressurize all of that, but those LF Soundwaves are going to do everything they can to squiggle through every opening possible. If that open area is correct, you've got yourself an enormous space around 8000'3. Given the size, I would shoot for the ported option. I understand the ULS 15 has good output for a sealed sub, but you are going to need bring it hard to put the bass where you want it. VTF3 or VTF15 all the way is my vote.

That's exactly what I figured, thanks for the validation on that.

The SB-3000 has significantly higher dynamic output capability than the PB-2000 in the 40-80 Hz octave. The new 13" split coil driver has a low moving mass with excellent sensitivity and a very flat force/displacement curve.

The SB-3000 will subjectively be punchier, tighter and quicker than the PB-2000 on music. Of course the PB-2000 turns the tables in the 18-36 Hz octave due to its much larger ported enclosure and is a better choice for HT in a larger room with an open floor space.

What are you running for main speakers? This can also influence the choice of subwoofer, especially for music applications. If you are running towers with decent mid/upper bass capability and setting a deeper crossover for the front channels in the AVR, then they will be handling much of the music bass range. This will allow you to run a ported sub without worrying as much about 'musicality' or mid/upper bass punch from the subwoofer.

Curious to know, please, your thoughts on taking care of a localized area in an extreme room... given that our friendly OP has updated that his open floor plan is hitting >8000’3. (I will find myself in a similar situation, too.) In such a large room, as I understand it, you begin to lose the benefits of cabin gain from sealed enclosures, making even localized efforts to pressurize a listening area more challenging.
Moreover, in such a very-large room, and considering his Klipsch speakers are rated down 32Hz/-3dB (assuming that spec is accurate),what advice would you give on maximizing the local area for LF response?
