Quiet pro amps?

Does anyone know of an entry level pro stereo amp that runs quite enough stock to have it in room?

I don’t need a ton of wattage, 200w at 4ohm would be plenty but more wouldn’t hurt.

How loud are the inukes stock?

I have a xls5000 powering my subs and it sounded like a jet taking off with the stock fan.

I would get the Crown XLS1002 (350W into 4 ohms) Class-D amps. Very cool, quiet, and efficient.

That is actually one of the amps I was looking at.

Can you elaborate on “quite”? Can you hear it from a normal seating distance (~10’) with no content playing?

When I say "QUIET" (not QUITE), it means I could not hear the fans come on at all even at 1 FT away.

Speakers were B&W 802D2 and Revel Salon2.

Amp was the Crown XLS2500.

I just installed one for outdoor speakers- the one thing I would like it to have is audio sense for turn on. Other than that, it worked great and the DSP is very easy to set up for crossover, sensitivity and mode.

Touche. I might be a little dyslexic or something (or Im just terrible at spelling!).

That is QUIET. My XLS5000 was literally ~65db from 7' away!

Yes, this was my next question, is there a way to get these to trigger on? Amazed they haven't started adding 12v trigger to some of these pro audio amps that are also popular with the consumer crowd.

Probably because consumer-use purchases are miniscule compared to pro-use purchases...

I know I know, but how much can it cost really?

Why is there no desire for this in pro circles? Do they just leave them running all the time?

The XLS gen 2 amps do have a trigger, albeit not the usual consumer style, altho I'd start with the 1502 rather than the 1002 for improved snr spec on the 1502 and up. The XLS Drivecore amps are very quiet, tho. The previous XLS series (like the OP's 5000) not so much

Oh and the iNukes are much noisier than the XLS Drivecores....no comparison really.

I have XLS Drivecore gen 1s so never had to play with that feature, but is simple to build the switch/connector that I remember reading about and been a while since I reviewed that on a few threads at avsforum.com, try this search, it's probably in one of the first few threads

What speakers? Could be an issue with very high sensitivity speakers, but then so can other amps....

They're usually fairly high.

I remember chatting with this guy with a quiet noise-floor theater and altho he liked his XLS Drivecore, he had some high sensitivity horns (not pro, some hi-end German horn speakers, Avantgarde I believe, something like 110dB tho) he could hear amp hiss with and believe he also chased pre-amp hiss before that, too....forget what he ended up with but took him a while to sort it out.

ps I've used with 85-92 dB range mains with no hiss issues with my XLS amps.

Amps used in portable PA applications are naturally turned on and off at setup and tear-down. Permanent installations typically have Power Sequencers. I think Panamax and Furman sell similar devices for home theater.
