didn't expect more than the specs stated 200wpc. I've heard 120wpc receiver play louder and almost as clean as this rotel. 200wpc are 200wpc whether its a integrated amp, a power amp, or reciever

200wpc is less than 3dB better than a 120wpc amp (keep in mind it takes a doubling of amp power to gain 3dB). Other factors than just wattage going on...

What is the stated sensitivity of your speakers in dB per watt at 1 meter. Now double the watts for every 3 dB increase. So to get 15 dB increase in volume output at 1 meter you would need 32 watts of amp power. Assuming your speakers at 87 dB per watt per meter sensitivity. You should get 102 dB at 1 meter with just 32 watts. That is pretty loud.

So usually amplifier wattage is not a reason for getting a low speaker volume output. Most of the excess watts are needed to cover the dynamic range of the music. These are peaks that come seldom but when they do, amp needs to have the necessary watts to cover them without distortion.

The speakers that I were the klipsch rp280f @ 98db. Sent those back waiting on the new klipsch rf7III which have a sensitivity of at least 100db

Just how loud do you want? Are you measuring at all?

ps Keep in mind a bit that Klipsch tends to overstate sensitivity, too.

Check for problem elsewhere. Here are a few places to check:

1. Check if both speakers are showing low volumes? If yes, problem is elsewhere.

2. The source is not providing enough output. Change the source to a CD player or something similar.

3. Speaker wires are partially shorting. Less likely unless they have been in water or something weird like that.

4. There is some setting in the amp that is limiting its output.

5. Amp is defective and needs to be checked out.

6. Speaker cables are not connected to correct terminals in the amplifier or the connections are not secure at speaker end or amplifier end.

Well you did say that your CD is connected to Rotel optically. Then it must be Rotel that needs to be repaired unless speaker cables are partially shorted or not connected tightly to the amp.

Definition via measurements help is all. Did you ever mention the distance you are from the speakers?

In any case, I'd still try a reset first before returning.

Well at that distance you should be able to go deaf easily enough

Doing reset and measuring spl with smartphone app would help a lot to tell what is going on. Also checking the connections like were suggested.

Even if Klipsch overstates speaker sensitivity, you should still be able to blast the room with that Rotel amp.
