I read the manual. The "mute" scenario is unlikely because if pressed, it is supposed to mute the volume completely. This thing does have a weird volume feature, you can set it to variable, fixed, fixed 01-95, and fixed max. When set to fixed, the gain will be fixed so the OP would have known right away if he had set it to "fixed" or "fixed 01-95" accidentally.

That means the likely scenario is, as mentioned before, the unit may be malfunctioning.

Before contacting the dealer or Rotel support, the OP can try a "Factory Default" reset first and see what happens.

"• FACTORY DEFAULT: This sets the unit back to the original state as when it left the factory. Press the + button on the front panel or RIGHT arrow button on the remote control to select then press the “ENTER” button on the front panel or on the remote control."

I did fine the mute but it doesn't reduce the vol it totally shuts it off. And this vol issue started from the beginning

You may have read the manual, but didn't see the part about the source inputs being set to Fixed as the default, but this can be defeated in order to set each level as needed. Go to page 15 and look at the part with 'Fixed Gain', at the upper left of the page.

I would recommend connecting a computer so you can set it up without needing to read the small display and use the remote.

You didn't by chance connect two sets of speaker cables to each speaker in an attempt to bi amp, did you?

I checked and all source inputs are set to variable. And I did not bi amp. Wouldn't even know how to

I still suspect we're missing something in the OP's setup which we've had to drag piece by piece out when he should have been clear about the gear, his connections, what he did to set up, etc. Maybe the Rotel's the issue but the more this goes on I still suspect setup in some way since the OP doesn't seem to have any sort of handle on it (unless it's just poor communication skills).

I did not do a factory reset. And again my setup is as follows, rotel ra1592 integrated amp(200wpc),marantz 5005 CD player(optical interconnect), rega p2 turntable(has is own rca cables) I had a pair of klipsch rp280f towers (returned. waiting for the new klipsch rf7III's),svs speaker cables.

How big your room is and how far your listening position is from your speakers? Also could you measure how loud it is at your listening position, you can do this with smartphone app for example.

Sometimes electronic processors can get stuck in some way and a factory reset typically could get that resolved.

After that you most likely need to send the unit back to get checked out or fixed, assuming you have already tried using difference sources and interconnects to eliminate the other possible causes as previously suggested by others.

Valid point in terms of not assuming anything, but I think chances are low that the root cause is large room and listening distance because of the high sensitivity of his speakers. 98 dB/2.83V/1m, nominal impedance 8 ohms.

He said:
I have to turn the vol up so much(75 out of 95) to get anything out it. Is this normal ?
Even if we de-rate the sensitivity by 6 dB and assume Klipsch inflated the nominal impedance by a factor of 2, he should still get at least 89 dB/1W/1m, and that Rotel is rated 200 WPC into 8 ohms or 4 ohms (most likely quite a bit higher into 4 ohms).

The inputs may be set for variable, but at what level? I would definitely connect your computer and look at all of the settings on a larger screen- it's harder to miss something.

I missed that "to get anything" part.

I agree that he should do the factory reset before anything.

Except we really have no idea what "anything" is in terms of spl. First step would indeed be a reset.

how do I cancel out if this forum
You don't need to do anything particularly, maybe turn off notices or something, maybe a mod can delete if you ask. What happened after the reset?

I'm very frustrated with this amp ,I didn't do the reset. At this point all I want to do is sell it
