There's audiophile born every minute. Isn't that how the expression goes? :D

I dunno, I think SONY kissed audiophiles goodbye decades ago. This company is pushing a really big rock uphill.

I think they're at a point now to where they're just throwing crap at the wall to see what'll stick.

Truth be told, they make, IMNSHO, some pretty good low priced Blu-Ray players.

Agreed, some of their products are alarmingly good. I do wish they could be a bit more cohesive.

Ya, we have a SONY player in our media room. No complaints. I think they'd be smart to concentrate on products that they can make a decent margin on that they can mass produce the crap out of instead of trying to pry into a market that really doesn't need them.

I don't think Sony has to care what people think.
http://www.statista.com/statistics/279272/proportion-of-sonys-sales-by-business/
Sony announced total revenue of 75.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2014, the highest the figure has been since 2008. Of this revenue in 2014, over 21 percent, equivalent to 15.83 billion U.S. dollars, was generated in mobile products and communications.
Sony is not too big to fail, but they're big enough to fail for a while and recover.

Mobile products and communications? Who the hell here is carrying a Sony phone? I have to wonder about those numbers.

You're assuming the America is the primary market. Europe and Japan are huge markets. Samsung doesn't have the presence that Sony has in Japan for example, not does Apple. Most of the most popular cellular devices in America are Korean and Apple.

From article:
As of the final quarter of 2013, Sony Mobile Communications held a 2.1 percent share of sales in the global mobile phone market, which amounted to the sale of 10.38 million mobile phones to end users worldwide.

The gold lettering sure does look nice, though. :D

Hopefully my soon-to-arrive Sony TV falls into the "they did it well" category. Like Mark mentioned, I've been happy with my 2009 Sony blu-ray player. Thing does everything that I'd want it to do, and it wasn't that expensive.

I have quite a few Sony products including TVs and AVRs in the past, no issue ever with any. However, I do know of one of their LCD (near top end model) that has developed a vertical line permanently on screen, so just beware of that and may be Google it to see if that's a common issue.

Always used to buy nothing but Sony back before I knew any better. They still have a lot of gems though out there.
