Anyone else have this experience?
When my cat died, I got rid of everything. I didn't want any memories of her in the house other than pictures. When my dad died, I wanted, and want, to keep everything he touched. "Oh, here's the pen he used when he wrote the check for the gas bill in 1991". I don't know seems weird, but what ever.
Yes, that's how I felt too when my grandmother passed. I wanted them to keep the house exactly the way it was and to be able to have some of the things from her because I spent a lot of time with her for much of my childhood. The reality is, the objects trigger the memories, but the memories are there. You don't need the objects to remember, but some of them are obviously special and you need to keep those.

So I had a little problem with my nest. I got a defective one from Amazon wherehouse deals and it ended up popping a fuse on the furnace. Not ideal at all since it meant I had to call maintenance and was without heat overnight. I sent it back and am going to try a different one. If this one gives me trouble, then I think I'm done with "smart" thermostats for awhile.
Was the power to the furnace shut down before you did the uninstall of the old one and during install?

I believe so. I had flipped the breaker that delivered power to thermostat, which I'm assuming also powers the furnace. I also had the breaker to the A/C off as well.

New Nest is up and running. Amazing how easy it is to install when you don't get a defective one.

Hey fuzz, wish I seen your post when you were with out heat I could have told you to jump out r and w to get heat for the night... Next time email me...

I had a lot of trouble with the nests, I never stocked them, I always stocked the honeywell prestige and its what I have in my own home, very nice unit, I like the home and away feature and the wireless devices...

ANYWAY, I have been so busy, seems like I am working more now than before, lol. I had the crazy idea to donate some time helping low income families get new heating systems, today was the last one, and I didn't mind the work as much as the bureaucracy you have to deal with to get it done. I personally with the help of my 16 year old son installed 6 boilers/furnaces and 9 hybrid water heaters. The equipment was donated by local suppliers and the labor by me {my company got the credit, since I am on payroll.} But getting stuff delivered and getting these poor people {I mean that in a sympathetic way, not like "poor poor", what ever that s going to make me sound like a d!ck no matter how I say it} have to deal with all kinds of red tape...

Funny you should mention those. I was looking at a bunch of those Honeywells and almost got one instead of the Nest. They look like great units and Honeywell has a much more experience in the market, but curiosity got the best of me.

Would jumping the r and w still work if a fuse had blown on the actual unit? The maintenence guy who came to fix it said that the problem was a fuse had blown (not breaker) and there was no power to the r which was why the thermostat wasn't on at all.

Now that I don't have a defective unit, the install went easily and took all of 5 minutes. Unit works great so far and setting a schedule is so much easier than with the supplied thermostat.

Is it just me that could care less about a thermostat? I just put it on what ever the temp is I feel is right at the moment. I bet it has been changed 10 times just today.

You're missing the the conversation in the 'What Are You Drinking Now' thread. There was some talk of bourbon and I'm happy for Mac getting both Pliny The Elder and Pappy in the same night.

So the Denon X4000 had what I think is a faulty HDMI board. Sent it back to Amazon and replaced it a Marantz SR7008. So far so good with the Marantz. I do love that porthole look.

Well, I really don't like to drive long distances and my rule is "if it takes longer than 5 hours, I'm flying".

So, I have never been to the cabin we have access to in NM as it is an 8 hour drive and if I am flying, I am going to Lake Tahoe, CO or Utah.

Last Friday, on a whim, we decided to just throw our boards in the car and take off to the cabin.

We had such a relaxing time with no real plan and no rush. The cabin was beautiful and ~40 deer where in the yard at all times. The Doe stayed right next to the cabin and some pretty large bucks stayed up on the hill.

The base was pretty dry but decent snow up on the mountain so we did one day of boarding. Two days after we left they got dumped on with 24" of snow at the summit. I would have liked to ski that but we would have likely been stuck there.

My back has been pretty injured this past 5 months so I was going to take it pretty easy on the board. Luckily I caught an edge going about 25 mph and did about 6 head over head flips. Next Wednesday I go in for Steroid injections around my spine. MRI shows a lot of degeneration in L4-L5 with a herniated disc. Getting old rocks!!!!
