Onkyo TX-NR535 and TX-NR636 Receiver: An Audioholics First Look

Onkyo has always been known for stuffing as many features into their receivers for as little cost as possible. Case in point: their latest offerings, the $499 TX-NR535 and $699 TX-NR636. Both models boast HDMI 2.0 and integrated WiFi and Bluetooth antennas, while the step up TX-NR636 adds 7.2 channels of audio, video upscaling, zone 2 (powered and line out). In addition, the TX-NR636 offers HDCP 2.2 compliance, which should deliver an extra measure of future proofing.

Rumor (on AVS) has it that AccuEQ (which is btw: Onkyo's owned tech) is a significant improvement over 2EQ which was typically found in lower end models like these two.
Now if only they would add full pre-outs in the these price points.... Oh well - this will never happen.

I went to Fry's yesterday to look at receivers. They had a bunch of pallets stacked with Onkyo 626s on the floor, on sale for $500. I guess this is why.

The Yamaha RX-V775 has pre-outs. It can be had for $500.
