My neighbor brought me this last night. Very good. A little expensive at $17.00 a four pack. So I appreciate him sharing!
Yep, that stuff is pricey! IMO, it's good but not anywhere near worth that premium. I tried it years ago in those smaller bottles, and just recently (in the past month) bought a couple 750mL bottles from Trader Joe's to try it again. I think it's good and is pleasant, but I don't get the price. It costs more than other Belgian (or Belgian-style) beers that I like better...including La Chouffe (my favorite, but hard to find here) and La Fin Du Monde.

All that said, I'm glad that you got a chance to have it! That was very nice of your neighbor.

It's been a while since I've posted....

Friday the 21st on the way out to the west side of Michigan, I stopped in the Grand Rapids area and visited 5 breweries.

Founders:
Panther Cub (tap room only): 1/2 Bourbon barrel aged and 1/2 maple syrup barrel aged porter, yummo.
MF Monkey Stout (tap room only, MF = Mackinaw Island Fudge) again, yummo.
Ruby Mandrina (tap room only, experimental pale ale) ok, not quite my thing.

Harmony Brewing:
Flight of 5 that I can't remember their names. The stand out was the stout.

Mitten Brewing:
Sampled 3, nothing that really stood out as spectacular.

White Flame Brewing (Hudsonville):
Cookie Munster, meh just ok.

Walldorff Bistro and Brew Pub:
Nitro Chocolate Stout, very tasty.

Currently Drinking an Odd Side Ale's Bean Flicker, which I actually like quite a bit.

Glad to see Kruppy back posting. I just finished a growler of Magners Irish Cider definitely nice. Earlier today I had sip of the 18 year. Definitely has improved from the open. It seems fine liquor does better with age.

Ba-Bam! Stopped off a Griffin Claw Brewing for the first time and had a sampler:

Cherry Bourbon Imperial Stout: On the sweet side, but I liked it. Cherry Bourbon Imperial Stout | Griffin Claw Brewing Company | Birmingham, MI | BeerAdvocate

Flying Buffalo Imperial Stout: Liked it. Griffin Claw Flying Buffalo Imperial Stout

El Rojo Red Ale: Not bad, but not my favorite. El Rojo Red Ale | Griffin Claw Brewing Company | Birmingham, MI | BeerAdvocate

Hulk Roggen-bier: Meh, not my thang. Griffin Claw Hulk-Roggenbier

Bar tender offered up a sample of their Coffee stout which I gladly poured down into my awaiting pie-hole.

You went to Founders, I'm jealous.
I just realized you're from MI.
My niece lives in West Bloomfield and is attending Wayne State.

Yessir. Unfortunately I only get out to the west side of the state (Founders) once a year or so. Hoping to make it back out there over the summer. Depending where in West Bloomfield, I'm roughly 12 miles to the north east of there. I started on my Masters at Wayne State...lost motivation and never finished.

I definitely have my eye on a Founders drive in a couple years. Problem for me is after the first beer tastings usually aren't as accurate. Especially with an IPA. If you are ever in Texas Real Ale has a very nice setup.

I've looked for the La fin Du Monde at my local liquor store but they don't carry it any more. They said no one seemed interested, they couldn't move it. I looked it up online and it seems priced about the same as the Duvel. I keep forgetting about the La Chouffe

They have to pay for their buying Ommegang and Boulevard Brewing Co. somehow.:D
It's nice for the style but not worth half the price. IMHO
I like some of Boulevards beers. I hope they don't change the recipes.

That's Indiana for ya. :p

It took me months to find it here. Well, it would help if I ventured away from the same store, I suppose. I found it at Trader Joe's. La Chouffe is better, IMO, but more difficult to get here. La Fin du Monde is a decent replacement. I like both better than Duvel for the price. Duvel is quite drinkable, but not worth the price to me.

Never had La Chouffe. La Fin is great, but it's also expensive. At the price they charge for it I can get a bomber of something local and amazing.
