Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

The retail was 998$ before slashed for quick sale. MS was bought by the same parent that owns cambridge years ago, I was told anyway. They never rolled out another line as Cambridge became the focus.... Dont know how true it is though. I think they bought all the assets and intellectual...

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

I did this 2 at a time for 7 channel system with 2 pairs Mezzo 6s and 1 pair Mezzo 2s. Same in all 3 rounds. Took over a week! Ha! :p MJ MITM was used in all 3 rounds before and after. Easy to hear harshness with it or other mentioned track.

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

Totally cool, Dennis. I know who you are and respect your opinion very much. :) Mordaunt short is being liquidated everywhere now. Their Mezzo 2s are an excellent bookshelf speaker. I own them and experienced the subtle change in the tweeter. If anyone would like to test this theory...

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

Good article and vid. Poor Z100s. I used to be pretty sceptical about break in..... FWIW, I have heard an in store AB comparison with bookshelves where break in was distinguishable between speakers. The FR didn't change, but the tweeters softened up a bit and became smoother. Not as edgy...

    Bulk speaker cable

Tip for the diy'er:  Your local electrical wholesaler will sell to the general public if you buy a case of bulk cable. Usually in 500 or 1000ft spools. Cat5, rg6, speaker cable etc. They can get almost anything too if something in particular is the aim. The savings make it worthwhile...

    Center channel behind screen

Currently my center channel is in line with my mains about 29" off the screen wall. I am getting a larger screen and am considering seymour center stage xd arterial for a diy build. From an acoustics standpoint, will putting the center channel 3" or so off the wall, then the screen 5" off...

    Bulk speaker cable

Hello all, I am looking to get a hold of some high quality speaker cable to use for a hifi and theater in-wall installs in my new home. I am fussy and do things once, right. So far I am looking at belden 1311a for speaker level cable. I could jump to 10awg, but my runs will be 50 ft or so...

    Need Advice For Home Audio

There are generally 2 uses for structured whole house audio. Room ambience (background music) in large areas is one. Specific use areas being the other (in wall/ceiling stereo/HT setup.) I would recommend not using a HT Receiver for whole house audio. A system designed for the job with...

Which bookshelf speakers should I buy ?

Focal has a pronounced bottom end in all of their speakers. They are also known for excellent tweeters. I would give them a listen. Have fun.

    DIY wall mount

I always come across scrap unistrut at work that I've often considered using for such projects.. One piece would be drilled and bolted flat on the wall. Another to the back of the television or whatever. They then interlock like sticking track together. Plenty strong and cheap if you...

    DIY Cedar Post Speaker Stands

Hi All, I've gotta share these great stands I built for only 60$! Well, plus sandpaper and clear varathane I guess. :D They are made from a single 8' 6"x6" Cedar post cut into 2 lengths. The Remainder was cut into cubes to make the bases. They are glued together using PL Premium and...

Tip of the Day: Recess Your TV Outlets

Bend the ears of the receptacle forward to allow recessed install. Bend them forward slightly and install as normal. Omitting the faceplate is frowned upon, so don't tell any electricians. :) p.s. I'm an electrician. LOL.

Speaker placement/Acoustic panel setup help? (Awkard shaped room)

Bass Traps in front corners- higher is better. I have mine near the ceiling with 6" or so left open above. Looks like your listening position is about 9' or so from the front wall. I would suggest spacing your speakers at 6-7 feet apart (3-3.5ft off center line) and into the room at least 2ft...

    Bookshelf Setup Puzzle.

I like this idea as it would negate me fishing wires down from the stand and up from the basement to beside the stairwell (to cross the hall.) I do enough of that stuff at work already! Lol. Thanks both for the ideas. I plan to first promote the idea of "redecorating" ;) and then plant the...

    Bookshelf Setup Puzzle.

That never even occured to me.... interesting. I was thinking about moving the speakers to either side of the loveseat adjacent to the stand.... but not sure I'd like the resulting listening location near the entrance.
