    Yamaha vs. Emotiva

Thanks for the responses. In other circumstances, I would agree with the "buy speakers now, amplification later" route. However the driving factor of all this is a particular pain point: connectivity/useability. My display has only one HDMI input which it disables if no active signal is...

    Yamaha vs. Emotiva

I haven't gone out speaker testing yet, since I'd rather have the power to push speakers before I get the speakers themselves. (That way I don't get speakers, under-power them and end up disappointed) However most of the speakers I've liked in the past (KEF, Phase Tech) and the direct-buy ones...

    Yamaha vs. Emotiva

I'm looking to upgrade my entire home theater a bit at a time. Currently I'm using an old Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver that's just not keeping up with technology. How would the Emotiva UMC 200 + UPA 500 (or 700) stack up against the RX-V2500, as far as performance goes? Would I be disappointed...

    IPOD help??

There are...but $79 for the 1GB Shuffle isn't a bad price, either. And for a workout player, do you really need a screen? *shrug* As for loading music onto the iPods...its incredibly simple.

    Athena AS-P4000 Subwoofer Review!

The Fathoms? Yeah...then send it to me when you're done so I can "review" it, too.

    New Gaming Forum on Audioholics???

Which all means that gaming fanboys will stay on their forums, and it will allow audio geeks to discuss games, etc. Count me in...I think its a great idea.

    Odd Aural Phenomenon

Just an update...this happened again two days ago. I went to a BB Magnolia outlet (they just put one in in my area) and listened to some Vienna Acoustics Bach tower speakers. This time, though, I said something to the salesman and he said he heard the same thing. So he called his manager in...

    My High WAF Home Theater

I'm not sure what he did with his lights, but single-zone lighting is easy to work with...you can get remote controllable dimmers from Lutron at your local hardware store. They have ones that say on the package something like "compatible with home theater remote controls"...that's what we used...

    AVR's and Ipod connectivity

There are other options as well. Check out the DLO Home Docks. (I've seen them at amazon, and lots of bricks & mortar stores) They will allow you to view onscreen info on your TV, up to and including video and pictures.

    Hockey Anyone?

Who doesn't like the hokey. Especially the "shake it all about" part. It really...wait...hockey?!? Erm... GO FLAMES! :D Unfortunately we don't have any pro hockey teams near Houston, but we do have the minors. The Houston Aeros are always a blast, plus you can show up the night of...

Apples Announces New iTV Player Software

iTunes will play any QT-compatible video files. There's a link on Apple's website that lists all of the compatible files. (Its under the quicktime page, one of the support links, I think) Mostly its the H.264 (.MP4 in unprotected form or .m4v in protected form), the .mpg/.mpeg, and the .mov...

Apples Announces New iTV Player Software

iTunes will play your homemade movies, provided they're in .mpg, .mov, or .mp4 (m4p? I forget). Just a warning, there's been a lot of people having problems with the new iTunes 7. Basically, when running 24-bit audio, its distorting music when it plays...you have to reset your quicktime...

Logitech's 5.1 Surround with wireless surrounds and a decoder with pre-amp

Just somethink to keep in mind for wireless speakers...you have to have a power outlet for each speaker/wireless module handy. If not, you're better off getting wired speakers.

    Speaker Wire

I would assume its pretty good stuff, being as Metra is a pretty big name in car audio. (They manufacturer a lot of the wiring harnesses and other wiring components)

    Impact Acoustics Ultraflat Wire

Cool. Thanks for the info, hemiram. I may have to give it a try. Since I think what I'll end up doing is modding the speaker with a new connector plate with binding posts instead of the spring-clips. That way, I can just crimp the wire and try the screw-on connectors. RE: Sholling's post...

Yeah...its on my list of things to do. In fact, my boss is a former navy electrician...he keeps saying he'll teach me, and somehow never does.

Enter to Win: $200 off Impact Acoustics Order!

I do not have an HTPC, but I would gladly take one if someone gave it to me. If I were to get one, I'd probably build it myself.
