Guest : Do you have the firmware used to flash the system or know where it can be downloaded? If you do there will be alot of happy 2400 owners out there.
Here is the upgrade process as posted on another forum:

Yamaha 1400 DPLIIx Upgrade available
How can I get my RX-V1400 receiver upgraded to DPLIIx?

In regards to you question about Dolby Prologic IIx.

Dolby Prologic IIx has been incorporated to all of our currently
shipping model RX-V1400 and RX-V2400 model receivers. There is
no way to tell which receivers have the upgrade simply by serial
number.
An RX-V1400 or RX-V2400 will have "Dolby Pro Logic IIx" if the
program-selector includes the following three options: PLIIx
Movie, PLIIx Music and PLIIx Game. (Also, while these three mode
names are visible, "DDPLII" appears to the left of the main display.)

If you purchased one that does not yet have this feature added to it,
please use the following directions to receive your free upgrade from
Yamaha:

1. Fax a copy of your sales receipt, with your name, address and
daytime telephone number, to (888) 435-7922 before September 1,
2004.
2. Our customer service department will mail you a Return
Authorization for Upgrade number and our Buena Park Service Center address.
3. You will then ship your RX-V1400 or RX-V2400 to our Service
Center, where DPL IIx will be installed free of charge.
4. Our goal will be to install the upgrade within 2 business
days from receipt of the receiver, and to then return the upgraded units
freight prepaid.

If you have any more questions please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely
Ken

When I emailed Yamaha about the upgrade, the response told me to check the SN label on the box or the back of the receiver. If there is a small black dot next to the serial number, the unit has been upgraded for DPLIIx. If not, you need to ship it back.

They've got to come up with a way to upgrade without requiring us to ship the unit back. I use my system everyday and can't stand the thought of being without it.

My 2400 is converting all my signals to component, which is one of the reasons I wanted this baby, however I can't seem to output a S-Video signal.

Is there something I need to do? When I turn the V-Convert off, it doesn't send the component signal or s-video signal.

your video conversion may be off but try going back to your input settings and see if they are set to send straight signals to the monitors various inputs. Now you have me wondering, I'd like to check the manual.

Not too sure if my question was already mentioned but does the 2400/1400 use fans for cooling, also will it be a good pre-amp (I already have a 5 channel amp)?
Thanks.

make some recomendations. I want the music to be warm.

As a side note I bought the Onkyo 701 because it made the movies and music warmer. (But I had problems with it...Quality control ran me back to my yammy.

Hi there, new here!! Got my RX-V2400 like slightly more than a week ago, with PLIIx factory-installed, i supposed!?!? Just some questions for now, wondering:

(1)if anyone noticed if your 2400's presence speaker or/and surround back speaker indicators on the front panel display do light up whenever you play back some 7.1 or 9.1 sources, the manual says so...and i have not seen em light-up before on my set!!! Thou when i last checked, the surround back speakers did contain some kind of ambient sound, and the presence too, were emitting some sound effects!?!? (LOTR DTS-ES+yamaha's own 'adventure' mode);

(2)YPAO works on the 5.1/7.1 inputs???;

(3)apart from the partial signal re-routing (analogue down-mixing on page 55 of the manual), 2400 has bass management on its 5.1/7.1 inputs, or not???

Thanks in advance for any info/advice.

1) Same here... although the diagram is "different" on the front panel than on the back... at first they were not lighting up, then I noticed that I did not have my DVD player set to DD or DTS "on".... after I did this all lights, lighted.

2) I"m not a 100% sure (Gene may know) but I don't think the YPAO works. on 5.1/7.1 inputs.

3) Again, I think the signal is "un-altered".

Thanks Dub.

Anyhow, i just realised i didn't actually get 9.1 done properly!!! What happened was i did almost the same thing as what you'd advised Ross on Dec 10 about the 9.1 set-up initially with the pre-amp out thing, except that i didn't change my speakers setting in the basic menu to 9 speakers. And i ended up getting surround back info from the supposedly presence speakers, which i'd thought was presence info. Of course i've changed the setting to 9 speakers since, still to no avail of setting up this 9.1.

I don't know, man!!! When i turned down all channels volume except my presence and surround back right speakers, and i compared their sound by positioning one of the two presence with the surround back right real close, they sounded exactly the same to me! (So double surround backs!!!) And when i selected presence speakers through the PR/SBch selection in sound menu, i could tell that the presence speakers were indeed emitting 'presence' channels, especially with the dialogue lift function turned on. But no sound at all from the surroub back right. So no 9.1!!!

So how do i get 9.1? My present connections and set-up are as follows:

Physical:
1) 2400 connecting to 7 speakers including surround backs.
2) 2400 pre-out from LFE to sub.
3) 2400 pre-out from SURROUND BACK/PRESENCE PRE-OUT to a stereo power amp connecting to presence speakers.
4) 2400 PRESENCE/ZONE 2 (speaker connections) not connected.

Set-up menu:
a) In basic menu, PRESENCE selected as YES & SPEAKERS selected as 9spk.
b) In sound menu 2A, PRESENCE SP as YES & SURR B L/R SP as SMLx2.
c) In sound menu 2J, PR/SBch SELECT as SBch.

And i ran YPAO after all the above, but still no 9.1!!!

Any idea where i have gone wrong??? Any help is appreciated.

Hi, Jerry.
Excuse me for my very bad english !!!
I live in Italy and my RX-V1400RDS had the same behaviour of the your 2400.
Is not possible listening at same time the presence speaker (with the dsp effect) and the surround back speaker.
The pre-out pin repeat the same informations of the selected speaker (Presence or Surround Back).
When the Surr. Back are selected, the DSP effect are redirect in the main speaker and the pre-out sound with the Surr. Back informations.

Kind Regards

Darn, guessed there must be some tricks that we missed, Mizarpom. I've already emailed Yamaha for their help, if only they would reply...!? Local support from Yamaha in Singapore too has yet to get back to me, claiming too busy and so forth??? But if others here could get it done, no reason why ours can't do the same thing???

Do not sad, Jerry.
I think this option is only for U.S.A.
The problem is possible is the number of volume control for any channel (yac523):
For me there are the same volume control for Presence and Surraund Back output (pre-out and Amplifier);
In U.S.A. there is Zone 3 out (not in Europe) with the another indipendent volume control (?).
This volume control is switched for Presence/Surr Back for 9.1 channel.
I have speak with yamaha assistance Italy for see the schematic diagram to find the optimal point (if is possible to do this modified) to take the signal preamplified for presence speaker (i am a electronic engineer).
If (and when) I have notice for you i write new post at this forum or e-mail you the information.
If you find the schematic diagram, please send me at this address: mizar_it@yahoo.it

Best Regards

Ya, good for you, man, Mizarpom! Hope you'll get yours fixed by no time!? I don't understand this? Apparently, their English brochures did not state clearly enough differences between the different models available throughout the world!? Why is Yamaha doing all these stuffs to their customers? Don't they understand we too do research from the net? After a bit of research, i found out these:-

US/Aus version Jap v. Asian v. Europe v.
1)Detachable power cord Yes None Yes
2)Multi room capable None None None
3)Normal transformer Special Normal Normal
4)Malaysian made May be Yes May be
5)Weigh 15.5kgs 17.8kgs 15.5kgs 15.5kgs
6)Consume 500w 400w 500w 500w
7)9.1 capable
         None None

"Whilst every endeavor is made to ensure the accuracy of the above, the table has been compiled based on the below and read at own risk:-
1)Various photos from the net.
2)Instruction manual from US, Canada and Europe.
3)Photo from Yamaha Japan's website and other photos from reviews.
4)Mine was, and gut feeling coupled with my common sense.
5)Specs from Yamaha Japan's website and Hong Kong Hi-Vi magazine.
6)Photo and specs from Yamaha Japan's website and instruction manual from US, Canada and Europe.
7)No luck so far."

Mizarpom, guess you should know by now that i'm more than a little pissed, and i am only too grateful that if someone can prove me wrong abt point 7. This, really is a deal breaker!!!
