Yamaha RX-V563 watching video source while listening to cd source

Good morning,

I was wondering if anyone out there has gotten the multiple source feature to work. According to the manual (which I know means nothing lol). I am supposed to be able to select a video source, then select an audio source and be able to have both sources playing at the same time.

What I am trying to do: I have an xbox 360 hooked up via hdmi. I would like to play that, and then have a cd playing instead of the audio from the 360.

What happens when I try: I select the 360 input, which brings up the 360 video and audio, then I select the cd input, which switches the unit totally over, no more xbox video a all.

My suspicions: Because I am using the 360 HDMI hookup, I don't think the unit likes this and does not have the functionality to play HDMI video and analog CD audio at the same time.

Can anyone confirm this or give me some guidance on how to make this happen? I am fairly new to the HDMI world, it was 10 years between receivers and we just got this one, so my learning curve is a bit steep.

Thanks for the time you have taken to read this, I appreciate any help anyone can give.

Do you have a separate connection running from the Xbox to the Receiver for the CD input? If it's only connected via the HDMI cable then there is no chance for this feature to work.

Also, did you set the CD connections to be the same as the XBOX inputs in the setup menu? If you did, this feature won't work.

Each input needs to have it's own dedicated connection used. Selecting the "CD" only means that it'll look for the sound from the CD inputs at the back of the receiver.

The feature should work like this:

1) Select the video source
2) Select the audio source via the remote
