OH YES WHAT ARE PEOPLE GOING TO SAY WHEN THEY READ THIS Klipsch Audio Technologies has named Yamaha Corporation the exclusive distributor of Klipsch brand speakers in Japan and the two companies have entered into a basic agreement regarding the joint development of speakers and home theater systems, and global sales alliance?/

Brother, can you paradigm?

It occurs to me that a product like this has the potential to change the natural order of things HT. Diminshed power requirements, negligible speaker placement and installation, comparatively little cabling...this changes everything! Or does it?

I'm curious to hear what Audioholics feel the greatest system implications are for someone putting together a ground-up system using the YSP-1 as the speaker solution in lieu of the current paradigm (5.1, 7.1, etc.). Said another way, for a given budget does the use of this product effectively lower your system's total cost due to lower amplification requirements, less cable, etc. or am I missing something?

The shape of home theater is changing rapid with products like these

With this product, in the future, I can see that one might be able to customize/choose a hybrid model, still use freestanding front speakers but have them operate in conjunction with sound projection to do the back or presence channels. That would be cool too.

Also, I heard the new NHT xd DSP speakers and they sounded amazing. We're not in Kansas anymore, and the progress of surround sound is really going to be exciting as we get better at recreating an seamless experience with more decor and placement friendly solutions.

I'm a semi-old guy (about Neil Young's age) who's finally got the time & money to do a 2nd generation HT/Blowyerbrainsout music system. I had pretty well settled on an Axiom Epic 80 or 60 setup when I read your review of the Yamaha. Since it sounds too good to be true, I ran right down to my local Good Guys and checked it out for myself. What I perceived, and the sales guy confirmed, is this is a knockout punch for pretty much any HTIB system, but wouldn't really have the impact of a relatively higher-end speaker system (say $3000 or so).
Is this your take on this product? The thought of eliminating all that cabling sounds tempting, but I feel I'd be underwhelmed with the result.

Hey Vinny,

Have been trying to clear the misconception about Yamaha speaker for quite sometime, is an uphill task and am the point of giving up for good, sad that this very company created the most accurate and also the most advanced speaker of its time called the NS-1000, the drivers in it were made from Be when most including snotty Brit brands were using Dextrene. Perceptions never change but most should be aware that Yamaha's speaker division was created to make speakers for their musical instruments and consumer audio was afterthought. This is news for me, Klipsch and Yamaha getting together, they never complimented each other in the past sonically, wonder what is going on.

Will the YSP1 work in this size of room?

Hi,

My family room is 19 feet wide, 27 feet long and 19 feet high. Do you think this unit would be able to properly fill this space? The YSP1 would be located on the 19 foot wide wall.

I have heard it at Bay Bloor Radio and it is very nice but the room it was in was rather small.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Will the Yamaha YSP1 work in a 40ft x 50ft room

Also how does just straight stereo sound like on it. I am thinking of using it in a commercial application with XM satalite or other stereo sources.

Audio delay

I bought my YSP-1 three months ago and, although I'm really happy with the sound quality, I did notice a significant delay between signal input and output. This can be noticed mostly in dialogs where even a few 10 ms can be clearly perceived.

Has anybody else experienced this problem? Is this a fundamental flaw in the technology?

My sitting room is about 3x as wide as it is deep, which means that the FL/FR/SL/SR signals travel farther than C and for that the central channel signal must be delayed in order for the other beams to catch up. I did the math and at the speed of sound the surround beams take about 50 ms longer than the central beam to reach the listening position, which agrees with my gutt feeling for how long the delay is.

Your setup should take that all into account in terms of signal delay. Double check that your setup and configuration accurately matches your room description.

I have an unusual situation in the room where I am trying to install the YSP-1. One of the side wall is within 6 feet of the speaker and other is nearly 20 feet away. Is it possilbe to bounce the rear surround sound off of the ceiling an still get a good image. I have tried unsuccessfully to get a good rear image using the far wall but have not tried the ceiling?

When I read such a positive review on the Yamaha YSP-1 speaker in Audioholics, I couldn't wait to hear it for myself!! I went to The Big Picture, in Louisville, Co. with VISA in hand, ready to take one home.

I couldn't have been more disappointed! The front image was interesting. The dialogue was clear...but NOTHING from the sides or back. The manager said a Yamaha rep did the set-up!

Maybe I just heard a lemon...Any one else have this experience? Now it's 6 weeks later and I listened to the same speaker at Ulimate Electronics in Boulder. This time I was impressed! The whole system was located in a very open area of the store. They had installed reflectors on the sides and back of the listening area. I think these made all the difference

I went to the local Tweeter and heard an awesome demo, perfect room though, about 6 foot square. I walked through the speaker balance test and you literally could hear the rears behind you. I understand the limitations and they are not for my HT room, but for my living room this is a nice solution that I may be buying soon.

I just bought an Xd system. Warpdrive does not lie. These sound almost as good as any speakers I have heard at any price, and I've heard the best of Wilson, Genesis, Martin Logan, B&W, Apogee, Dynaudio, etc. The only thing that limits them from the best of the best is bass (*very* good, but not as deep as the big boys) or ability to crush skulls with volume. It plays very loudly, but you can hear when it starts working. Again, this is at a very high dynamic level.

They have to be heard to be believed. Also, I have NEVER heard a speaker that virtually eliminates the sweet spot. Stand up, sit down, move around the room - the sound is virtually the same.

So what have you done to fix it?

Ysp-1000

I just ordered the Yamaha YSP-1000! I’m not an audiophile, but I want true 5.1 surround sound for movies and accurate positional sound for games (without all the wires spread around my living room for satellite speakers like I have now). From what I can tell, the difference of the YSP-1000 over the YSP-1 is that it comes with its auto-calibrating system with a satellite microphone for taking measurements and auto-adjusting the appropriate settings. And I already have a separate powered subwoofer that I can add to the system.

I’ll report back on my experience!!
:)

Bridgeboy,
I am looking forward to your opinion regarding the speaker and video games. My son (me) has the XBOX 360 and 5.1 wonderful for game activity placement and DVDs. Our room is about 25x25 feet tile floor. I was looking at wireless satellite speakers, until I saw these. Hope the YSP work out as well as you hope.

I have an X360 as well, and I currently use an RCA receiver with wired 5.1 speakers. My YSP-1000 is scheduled to arrive today, however, unfortunately I won't be able to do anything with it until the first week of January. I’m leaving on vacation for the holidays tomorrow.

I’ll report back in January after I get a chance to try it out!

Ysp-800

Anyone heard the new YSP-800? Is it a big step down from the YSP-1/YSP-1000?

Hdmi Setup?

HDMI setup via DVD-PLAYER or other source. How does this effect the sound quailty if I use HDMI from my DVD PLAYER to the TV. Do I then use Optical instead?
I just purchased the Samsung HLR6168 and awaiting the DishNetwork 811 HD Receiver and the YSP1000 and YST-SW1500 subwoofer. Hurry and come!! I'm confused about the setup as I really would like to use HDMI for the vid/audio. Thanks for any suggstions.
