I didn't read into what the current update was for Yamaha, but ever since it was updated my normal "movie watching" sound level which is -20, doesn't seem to be as loud as it was previous to downloading the update. I've had to turn it up to -15 to match what -20 used to sound like. Has anybody else noticed anything similar since that update a couple weeks ago?

Tell your kids to stop screwing around with your manual speaker Channel Levels and Remote Control. :D

In fact, hide your remote and just use your iPhone as the MusicCast remote like I do. My physical remote doesn't even have any batteries in it - hidden in the closet.

I set mine to reflect ~ 80dB (about +5.0 above the standard Automatic Setting), so my "usual" level is always about -30.0.

-20.0 would usually be extremely loud on my Yamaha.

Hahaha! I think it was just the movie itself. I tried another movie and it was very loud even at -30. Or maybe it's just my ears are going bad.... hahaha. All settings have been fixed. I did increase the Atmos overhead by .5. So we'll see if that helps with things. My overhead seemed "light" lately.

0.5? Live a little. Jeez. Make it a full Calorie 1.0, not half a Calorie. :D

Ok, I had it 1.5 and turned it up to 3 for all of them. I definitely notice a difference! haha :D
That’s what I’ve been saying for years. Audio mixing isn’t an exact science. You gotta do whatever it takes to get your system sounding at its best.

These mixers will turn the levels too low or too high whether it’s Atmos or dialogue or bass.

I'm going to turn my bouncy "Atmos" speakers up by like 5db and see if that makes them useful.

Indeed, and adjust to taste.

HI folks! I just finished reading this entire thread. A fun ride and I learned a lot.

I currently have an RX-A2080, which I love, but want to move from 5.2.4 to 7.2.4, which the A2080 won't do for me.

So what's the consensus on the A6A's and A8A's? Everyone still happy with them?

There's a lot to choose from to get to 7.2.4 between Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, etc. Although I've always only owned Yamahas and never had any issues with them, I want to be open minded and consider other options if anyone that has tried another brand has $0.02 to throw in.

I guess the big difference would be YPAO vs Audyssey/Dirac. I've always been fine with YPAO. I have REW and a UMIK and always adjust PEQ a bit after YPAO runs and haven't been disappointed. I've got several subs with DSP in the amps so I always just set those up myself using REW. I would also like to check out the new YPAO "low frequency" setting. Would I be missing out if I skipped Dirac again for this go-around?

Thanks!

Yeah Yamahas PEQ is pretty badass!

Yamaha: the ones,
Who Get It Done!

Sooo, if you do an upgrade, umm sell me your A2080. :D

Both the A6A-A8A are very capable. Buy as I'm sure you know, by reading the whole thread a lot of Denon fanboys crash the thread some.

Time for Yamaha to come out with a New type AVR been 5+ year's now since Yamaha updated their Adventage line.

If you’re happy with your Yamaha, I see no point of changing. So I say get the A8. :D

When my RX-A3060 stop's working, which hopefully won't be for a long time, I'm looking at the A8A as the replacement, although I'm not crazy about the front panel. I'm curoius though, has anybody tried the additional YPAO setting they added to these recievers. (Low Frequecy Mode) ? Do you set it prior to running YPAO or after? Does it actually improve the clarity of the bass?

Yeah, YPAO isn't as good as Audyssey XT32 or Dirac, but probably closer to Anthem ARC.

I definitely don't buy Yamaha for YPAO. I buy Yamaha for MusicCast, reliability, and manual PEQ.
