I'm guessing it would be upgraded via a firmware update.
I don't think that's possible. Think of it like USB 1.1 vs USB 2.0; you need a different set of components to get HDMI 1.2.

I'm not an EE, but that's my understanding based on what I've read.

Then I guess an authorized repair shop could swap out the hdmi board in the receiver.

Speaking of authorized repair shops, supoose I bought a Yamaha receiver on Ebay and it had no warranty, where would I be able to get it serviced if it ever needed it?

Hello All
Here is a direct quote from the RX-V2600 manual under the HDMI header page 119

This unit is not compatible with multi-stereo area audio signal of Super Audio CDs.You can conect devices such as DVD player to ther Multi CH Input jacks
I just started playing with the RX-V2600, 10 minutes last night before I had to run. So far I really like it, but one thing I dont like is the way they changed the front pannel LCD display. The indicators are tiny and hard to see from a distance. I like the older style better but some may like the new style. I am still shaking this receiver down but it seems to be a keeper with tons of power and features
More later

Does this mean I can't connect my SACD player to the 5.1 analog "Multi CH Input Jacks"? Why not? Isn't it just 5 separate analog signals that are then amplified and sent directly to the speakers? What does that have to do with HDMI? I wouldn't want to send an SACD signal to the TV. Am I missing something?

It means SACD is not compatable with the HDMI input. You must use the multi-channel analog inputs for SACD

How do you like it so far? Is the video switching working well?

Rx-v2600

I picked mine up on Saturday. I am absolutely no expert but I love it. I like the sound alot and it is really powerful compared to my HTR 5790 (at least for my needs and room size which is not big). The HDMI switching works great. The upconversion from component works great. However, I have not been able to initiate/access the HDMI Upscaling...all of the possible resolutions (ie. through, 480p, 720p and 1080i) are greyed out in the GUI and I can't access the resolutions. Most of what I am inputting is already upscaled by way of my cable box and dvd player so I don't know if the resolutions are grey because the signals have already been upscaled or if I have a defective OPlus chip...or, and this is most likely reason, if it is just newbie user error. I have e-mailed Yamaha and am awaiting their response. I know it isn't much but I hope this helps

Your right! According to the manual, the options will be greyed out if the signal is already HD (720p/1080i)

Hey all...

origionally posted by packk01 and jmone "Most of what I am inputting is already upscaled by way of my cable box and dvd player so I don't know if the resolutions are grey because the signals have already been upscaled"

My question is...How does the HDMI upconverting work with non HD material? Any signal coming in from a DVD player would be 480P at best and cable box would be 480i or P unless it's an HD channel.... So these options should not be greyed out for SD TV and DVD. Unless the receiver is assuming anything coming via HDMI is already 720P and therefore will not let you upscale. I know there are certain TV's and projectors that will not process anything coming in HDMI for that reason and you need to use component inputs if you want to take advantage of the onboard processing. I hope this is not the case. I'm about ready to get this long awaited receiver if the upconverting is as advertised. Otherwise I'll save the $$ and get the 2500. Hope all goes well....keep us posted.

That is the same question I had

My DVD player does upconvert but I tried to use the 2600 upscaler by turning off the upscaler in the DVD player and it still showed greyed out in the GUI. My cable box is an HD DVR but I turned off 720p and 1081i leaving only 480i to see if I could upscale the 480i through the Yamaha. Still nothing I am going to continue playing with it tonight...It really is an outstanding receiver for the price but I want all the bells and whistles to work even if for now I don't have an immediate need the upscaling. I am also awaiting a response from Yamaha regarding my e-mail as to this issue. I'll let you all know what I find out. If anyone else has a suggestion on what I might be doing wrong please let me know. If it is defective I will be bummed as it will mean another hour spent reattaching everything to the replacement. Again though...to my untrained ears it blows my old 5790 which I thought was great...out of the water.

I would try running component video out of your DVD player and see if it than gives you the option to upconvert to 720P and switch it to the HDMI out. Just a thought.... I just hope it can do something to improve SD TV coming off my DirecTV receiver. It runs component out for HD, but HD looks like crap on DLP TV's. Even scaling to 480P would be a huge help.

Well I have tried running only component out of DVD player

There is no problem upconverting to HDMI out to Monitor but still no luck with upscaling. I guess I will wait to hear from Yamaha. It seems like I am missing something just can't put my finger on it. I am going to keep trying but I am getting a bit down. Worse comes to worse I will exchange it as defective...Tweeter is good with that.

Well good luck with that. Maybe the guys at Tweeter can also be of assistance. I think you may be the first person on earth who bought this receiver because no one else in the forums (here or AVS) has commented on even having it yet.

After bugging the guys about the receiver for several weeks

at my local Tweeter, I was told on Saturday that the warehouse had received them and I could pick it up at the warehouse if I paid at the TWEETER....the warehouse is only about 7 miles away...so.....I went..LOL...cool warehouse by the way. They said they expected to have some in at the Tweeter today...

I think HDMI-HDMI is only throughput, i.e. it won't touch anything received through the HDMI port.

It is extremely unlikely an HDMI signal can be passed from cable box (sat box?) through the receiver (the repeater) and on to the TV.

If someone can get video from cable box to TV using 2 HDMI cables only, the Yamaha will have accomplished what other modern receivers cannot do.

Nothing wrong with the Yamaha, it's a funtion of your cable source and that damn HDCP ver. 1.1.

...but this is precisely what Yamaha says it can do, even to the point of upconverting non HDMI connection to HDMI. The question is will it do any processing or scaling? This is what I want to know. This is what has everyone so excited about this receiver. Otherwise it's no different than the 2500 or the Denon receivers in the same class.

It has no problem passing through HDMI from the cable box

through the reciever to the HDMI port on the Plasma. I haven't been able to upscale component information that is input into the receiver then upscaled to the monitor yet. I think my mistake is that I am running both component out of the receiver to the Monitor and HDMI out of the receiver to the Monitor. Both show a picture on the TV when the TV is set to the proper function. My guess, after pouring through the manual, is that it is not upscaling because the component out is taking precedence over the HDMI out and the information is being "passed through" the component out rather than getting upscaled through the HDMI. I hope what I just wrote makes some sense.

In any event, I am going to remove the component out cables from the receiver and see what happens. As my wife took over the TV last night and since I am now at work, I can't test my hypothesis until this afternoon. I will let you know what happens.
