Why do AH's own or wanting to own separate amps whether they need them or not?

What about the Plutos. I've been considering them for new bedroom setup in the 2.2 configuration. Using the hypex modules and mini dsp seems like a high WAF and running them strictly for music. I'd love to try the plate amps with mini dsp built in, just the subs in this instance doesn't lend itself to it.
I just prefer the flexibility of having external amps whether it is speakers, subs, or processors.

Powered speakers are another matter. In certain applications I see definite advantages.

Basically anywhere you would like a space saving stereo. A small dac and a couple powered bookshelves for the wife so she can relax in the tub. Huh? yeah. Great valentines gift guys. Plus you get to use it while in the shower.:D

Exactly. I do have 7 pairs of powered Pioneer speakers at home. May get some powered speakers for my office at work too. :D

The problem is that if crossovers are sold and speakers without crossovers are sold, it would take a highly tech competent audio community to get results anything other than awful. It would require computerized measurements and computer set up of the crossovers.

For the consumer the place for the amps and crossovers is the speaker. Class D amps are particularly upset by passive crossovers. Class D amps work well designed for connection to speakers without crossover between the connection. I think if you were a manufacturer this all could be done with economies of scale. The other big advantage is it would reduce ground loop problems greatly. I'm an advocate of optical connection between speakers and pre/pro. To me that is the only way that makes sense for the mass market.
I debated putting the electronics inside my speakers, but making adjustments would be a royal nightmare. I put them in external enclosures on top of the speakers. It is a kind of temporary solution. As with all solutions it starts off kind of crude, but I'm sure elegance will come with further iterations.
