Why Bose doesn't publish specs..

I was about 7 or 8 years old when my Father purchased some 901's in the mid 1970's. They were powered with a Pioneer SX-1010. Since I was so young at the time I didn't know anything about them but I do remember company coming over and saying how excellent they sound. I heard more than my fair share of Neil Diamond Albums in my like time. Then as I got older I liked the band feet high KISS. Kiss Alive 2 was my favorite. Live recordings through those really sounded like you were there! They were so amazing. The room they were in stared out at 8 feet high and had a vaulted ceiling that went up to about 16-18 feet. They were hung in the corner from macrame hangers. There was a window in the middle of the wall but the corner was solid at about feet wide and feet deep. Looking back now it was like that room was made just for those speakers. Talk about LOUD, the clarity was great too. I guess placement is the key to making these speakers work and sound properly. In that two story house the sound could be heard everywhere. I am now trying to get my Father to kind of pass them down but he is not ready yet. To this day I have never heard speakers fill a room with sound as much as those did without being incredibly uncomfortably loud. No where...

I doubt there are many 901s working especially the original ones. The drivers were not made by Bose and could be bought OEM for $1.73 each.

There were quite a few around back in the day. To me they sounded absolutely awful.
I owned a pair as recently as 2011 (Series V) and sold them locally on Craig's List for $350 after 4 days of listing them. Back when my wife won them at a work Christmas Party in '83 they were the cats pajamas for mid-audiophiles speakers. I can remember a demo at the Philadelphia Armory in '77 where they blew me away. Of course they were being run by 750w of power in an acoustically treated room. As the years went by though I knew better but I was so busy with work and family that they just became part of the background. Fast forward to 2011, after I went on long-term disability due to chemo-therapy treatments, and my ears said enough. And now I get to hang out with you guys and go broke but happy. :)

I currently own a set of 601 series II's and I have always preferred them to the 901's. They fill the room like the 901's but have much stronger bass and better vocals as well. I do agree that bose has become a sham and are only in it for the money but at one time Dr Bose was making some interesting products. Far better than the useless cubes the use today
