Which Amp? Pioneer 1019, VSX-82TXS , or VSX-01TXH?

Hi All,

I have loved my ancient Pioneer stereo amp, but with the purchase of a new LCD TV, it's time for a compatible amp for 5.1...

Just wondering which would work best, and are there going to be compatibility issues any where. I listen to a lot of vinyl, so sound is important; however I really want my wife to be able to enjoy the 5.1.
Speakers - going to be starting off with the Orb Audio Mod 1 system with the 8 inch sub.
DVD/CD player - DVD - DV 563A
TV - Panasonic 37" TC-L37S1 1080p

So which amp/receiver should I be picking up (all are about $500-$550) - I really like Pioneer, and these are the ones that I have narrowed it down to - the 1019, VSX-82TXS , and VSX-01TXH?

I am planning on using the HDMI, I plan to use my iPod sometimes, my wife loves her wii. What issues should I be aware of? I love the idea of the VSX-82 for the price (new and thorugh a good seller), but I know that it's older and wonder if it will work with the TV mainly.

Ohh, I'd really like the 1018, but have found it impossible to find...

I will go with the Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH, personally.

I've also found the Pioneer Elite VSX-03TXH in the same price zone... so please consider the Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH, Pioneer Elite VSX-03TXH, the Pioneer Elite VSX-82TXS, and the 1019. Unless someone has a 1018 they want to send my way!

The 82 is 3 Gens removed are you buying used?
No, it appears to be a closeout special at a large, reputable dealer (brick & mortar, so I can hear it too, at around $700 off MRSP). Will those three generations cause me headaches in compatability with the TV?

One reason to get the VSX-01 is for pre-outs. You may want to add an outboard amplifier down the road.

If the Elite VSX-03TXH is about the same price as the VSX-01TXH, go with the 03. That's the top of all your choices.

The reason why? I just mentioned it. It's the top choice, period!

Why is it the top choice? Because it is the higher model of them all, with more features and the latest and greatest.
Just check for reviews all over the internet or visit AVS Forum, and check the Pioneer Elite VSX-03TXH official owners thread.

Hi Matty,

Yes, go for the Pioneer Elite VSX-03TXH, if the price is similar to the 01TXH.

Even better than that, check the Pioneer Elite SC-05 at Videogon for only $700. That's THEE BEST ONE.

Oups! Looks like it's gone!

Try: http://www.4electronicwarehouse.com/products/elite/sc-05.html
And just make an offer at around $700. If they refuse, try again at $750.

I'd love to do that, but the wife will lose her mind with the $500 ones... $700 could cost me a divorce.... thanks for the suggestions. BTW, I can't find the official owners thread so far... am I looking in the wrong spot?

Yes. It is too old (VSX-82TXS) to match with your TV.

You mentioned vinyl. None of these have phono iputs. An inexpensive phono pre-amp will solve the issue.

You are absolutely right. That sucks! Marantz, now Pioneer!...

Perhaps he should go with a Denon AVR-2309ci (about $500 or so) instead, with Audyssey MultEQ.
Or an Onkyo TX-SR806 ($600), with Audyssey MultEQ and Audyssey Dynamic EQ, plus THX Ultra2 Plus and THX Loudness Plus.
Or the TX-SR706 ($500), with Audyssey MultEQ and Audyssey Dynamic EQ, plus THX Select2 Plus and THX Loudness Plus.
* Or even the Onkyo TX-SR705 :) ($440), with Audyssey MultEQ XT and THX Select2. At only $440, plus higher specs, this one is a no-brainer. Runs hot, but that's about it.
And the three Onkyo models here have all preouts for all channels, but not the Denon model.

All of these have a Phono input. Or do they? ;) Yes, they do, 100% sure.

I guess I better sell my display. :p
LOL. Bandphan, same for me, bought my display TV about 18 months ago and it displays only 720p. :(

I just bought my last receiver only a few months ago, and it does not have Dolby Pro Logic IIz or Audyssey DSX, and only 3 HDMI inputs that goes to only 720p (at least it matches my TV).

So I just bought another one (receiver), that adds one more HDMI and does 1080p, but still misses the newer features. And does not match my TV anymore now!

Oh well, I guess that I'd be better off selling my house and go live in a tree. ;)
