Not a CD, but an SACD of "Dark Side Of The Moon".(Pink Floyd obviously)
Haven't even taken the plastic wrapping off yet. Waiting to take a 2 hour block of time, to just sit in my HT, and listen to the entire album without any interuptions. My kind of QUIET time. :) Joe B.

Also just bought my second copy of 'Time Warp' by Telarc. It's actually a collection of different Movie, TV, and select symphony pieces, done by the Cincinatti Pops, and it was put out by Telarc, who has their own recording technique that makes anything they put out sound better than any other recordings that I've ever heard. Had to buy another copy of TIME WARP because the 1st copy WALKED AWAY on me. Great reference type of CD.

Brian Wilson's Lucky Old Sun. As a kid, I grew up on the Beach Boys and have always been awed by Brian's songwriting but the cringe factor of his post Pet Sounds music has put me off. This one is no exception especially the nostalgic narrations that show up hear and there..."those were the great days, waves, babes and hotrods...etc". Nevertheless, Brian's lush and beautiful harmonies won me over and I can't stop listening. It's sort of a guilty pleasure. It's sad at the end as he muses on how much he misses harmonizing with his brothers and you get the feeling that he is thinking about dying, but this is a fine piece of S California surfing wonderland.

Sorry if off topic but I feel it somehow relates. You know what would really be super...if this sight had specific age groups to post in. I mean, I read a bunch of this stuff and it's starting to show my age which is totally acceptable...pardon the pun on totally. I think it would be really great to post with persons of like taste that can relate to certain genres/bands/gear. Many of us started with 2ch rigs wayyyyy before the muti-ch stuff came about. It' nice to help others as well as learn from those that regardless of age may help us older guys/middle age guys. However, it's nice to discuss with those that have experienced life and seen/done things that give us a common bond beyong just gear/music.

Not sure if this forum has enough members to support to may sub-forums but you could always start your own thread on a genre.

It may have already happened here but in another forum someone started a “What was the first Album (LP) you bought.” It had legs for awhile but not that many members to keep it alive. For the record my first LP was “Whipped Cream and Other Delights” by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass

My first rig was actually 1ch :) Then I went to 2ch, multi-ch, and now mostly back to 2ch.

The first album I owned was The Beatles Second Album, received as a gift from my grandparents. The first album I bought was The Guess Who 'Share The Land'

Just got a music DVD, not a CD

Not a CD, but a 5.1 music DVD: "DVD Space Spectacular," by the Dallas Symphony, designed to show off a good 5.1 system. It has Strauss's "Thus Spake Zarathustra" and Holst's "The Planets."*

*Though I love classical music and even have a degree in it, I'm no purist. Half our CD collection is pop/rock, and we have blues, we have international music, we have movie soundtracks, we have jazz... :p

I haven't played the "Space Spectacular" DVD yet, though I hope to Friday afternoon.

And that reminds me, I have a DVD by the wonderful (and gorgeous :D ) Russian soprano Anna Netrebko that I haven't played yet. (It's been a difficult year for us dealing with some serious family issues.) I hope I get to play and watch both in the next few days.

Now my latest is a somewhat oldie...Mike Ness's "Cheating at Solitaire" and "Under the Influences". The unruly LA punk rocker from Social Distortion moved through several phases of drugs and rehab until it finally stuck. This pair of albums came out after that, released a few months apart in '99 and not performed by SD.

Cheating is mostly Ness songs with a strongly confessional tone and cameos by Brian Setzer and Bruce Springsteen. It has a great cover of Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Allright". Under the Influences is mostly old country covers. Sung in Ness's ragged, monotone voice, these songs really work. Both are terrific cd's, complimenting each other and seem to have an sincerity that won me over. Even my wife, who generally strongly dislikes anything punky, liked these disks.
