Onkyo Receiver TX-SR504
Klipsch Quintet III

Just want to know what sub you guys think would work well with my setup. I dont want to spend more than 250 shipped (american dollars) and i prefer to spend under 200 shipped. Would prefer a minimum 10 inch. Obviously needs to be a self powered sub. This will be for primarily movie watching. Probably 80% of the time.

thanks

I've owned the Velodyne VX-10 for 1.5 years and have been happy with it's performance. To me it sounds tight and clean even when I've cranked up the volume on my $200.00 receiver. I'm running it in my 5.1 system and from what I can hear I've got the sub dialed in pretty good for music with my Polk audio RT3 bookshelves for mains. You can get them online for near 170 shipped. I would recommend it for the price.

Thanks for the sub recommendation. Yes i like the receiver so far. Any good websites to get the velodyne cheap ? I bought my onkyo at Circuity City as well. I went to buy it when it was 279.99 and they happened to have an open box that looked great. I think someone bought it and decided they wanted something better. Had everything but the box. So i asked them how much for the performance guarantee. They said 15 bux. So i got it for 229.00 + 15.00.
Cheaper than the sale item and longer warranty. I think i did the right thing. The speakers i got a bestbuy brand new. normal price there is 499. Got them for 399 - 12% than - 25 for some rewards zone certificats. So 326 plux tax. Not bad.

Any other sub recommendations ?

I'm actually in the same boat you are in right now. I posted something similar just a few days ago. I've looked into the Velodyne VX-10 which I've heard is a great sub for the price (around $175 shipped). If you are willing to wait and save up some more, I've been recommended to try the BIC Acoustech H-100 which runs about $275 shipped. I've got the BIC Acoustech front and center speakers, so I've debated which route i truely want to go.

I am eyeing out the acoustech sub as well. One reason i would rather go to a 12 inch. Let me know where you find the best deal at. I found it somewhere for 250 shipped. but they are not an authorized dealer

Budget Sub

Check out the Onix X-sub for $200 from av123.com. It got a good review from AH. Its 8" woofer and 150 watt amp will give you clean bass down to the 30 Hz range.

If you want a 10" sub with quality bass down to 20 Hz, then save up for the SVS PB-10.

Energy

Check out the Energy S8.3. Nice little sub depending on your room size.
Not sure what the price is in U.S. dollars though.
I have one in my family room as part of my second system.
I love it. It's not strong enough though for my Home Theatre system in the basement. I have a different 10" sub there.

Hope this helps.

I'd also recommend the Onix X-sub for your price range.

Well ordered the BIC Acoustech H-100 on the 10th. due to the weekend and UPS slow as nutz. I got it on Tuesday last week. 2 days before thanks giving and i have been out of town for the holiday. I hooked it up the moment i got it. The sorry thing is my receiver took a dump. A spark came from inside and started to smoke. Than wouldpower on and than shut down. Well Circuit city took care of me. I bought it less than a month ago and was open box. I was very nice and talked the guys into letting me get a brand new one at the same price. I was very happy about this. Anyways that is an upside to buying local. No waiting for a product. I hooked this up and i am still doing some fine tuning. Lets just say this sub rocks. I could not be happier with my setup. Since i have the Klipsch quintets i had to set the crossover to almost 120. The setup seems to blend very well. I have a friend that is going to let me borrow his spl meter and some discs to try and squeeze the most out of everything.
My setup is as follows
Onkyo TX-SR504 paid 229
Klipsch quintet III's 352 - 25 bestbuy dollars
Bic acoustech H-100 249 shipped (from authorized dealer sounddistributors.com, bought off ebay on best offer)

So for 839 dollars i am very satisfied. I am going to see if i can get a price match on the Klipsch since they were on sale for Black Friday. we will see.
