What style tower speakers to add?

Hi, I am new to the site and looking for some helpful suggestions on some speakers.

I gather from reading similar threads that it is very much a personal choice, and you need to listen to them first. The room is about 12' x 25' with 8' ceilings. TV and stereo are at the end of the room. Large speakers would work as well as small ones for the space.

I am upgrading my stuff one piece at a time as budget allows. I started with retiring the Onkyo receiver for a new Pioneer Elite receiver (about $1k). Speakers are next, budget is $1000

I have a cheap 12" JBL sub that will be replaced next year.

My question then is should I go for a stick tower like Mirage that has several small drivers, or something like a Polk that is thin and deep, or a traditional style with a large woofer and mid and tweeter.

I also see some Polk SLi15 that have a built in sub. I could dip into next year's budget for a new sub with these units.

My amp is set up for bi-amp, not sure if that is what I want. If I use a normal connection, I can move my existing Infinity speakers to mid-room location, but I cannot hook up mid room speakers and bi-amp too.

I'm also new here. The thread tiltled "Energy Veritas 2.4i vs. Axiom M80ti - a blind listening test." brought me to this forum.

It would be helpful to provide the gear, make/model #, you have now.

Try PSB Towers

I was in your same situation recently and here is what I did. I bought a pair of PSB T55 towers for $700 a pair. They have two 6.5 woofers and a dome tweeter and I have about the same size room, 14 by 25 ft with 10 ft ceilings. I do not use my sub when I listen to music and they have plenty of low freq response for my taste.
I considered Paradigm, KEF, Monitor Audio and Dynaudio and settle on the PSB for the best bang for the buck. The Dynaudios were great too but they were about $2000 for what I felt was comparable. I am using a Yamaha RX-V663 which has plenty of clean power to get these as loud as I would ever want to listen. Unless you are setting up a HT, I would give these a listen before buying another sub. They also have the T65's which are the same as the 55's but have an additional woofer for more extended bass.

Let me know how you do////

If looks are important, go with the style you like, otherwise pick the speaker that sound the best to you. I am willing to bet there are good speakers in many and various stylings.
